(V. 12-14)Being right before GodThe fruit that reveals who we serve (Gal. 5:19-24)Walking through life we reveal who or what we are slaves to.  (v. 15-19)This slavery is being bonded to GodDavid counting his fighting men (2 Samuel 24)Walking as slaves to God leads to purity and eternal life. Romans 3:21-4:25
    Intro:  What’s on your fridge?

  • The Need for Amazing Grace
    Sermon Scripture:  Romans 1:18-3:20
The need for grace is because humans have rejected God.
There is no acceptable excuse for not knowing God, yet we still look for one. (1:18-20)God gave us up to “dishonorable passions,” He didn’t force them on us. (1:21-26)Paul is speaking to us all, but we like to think he is talking about “sinners.” (2:1,3-4))We are all sinners and that is why we need and should be thankful for grace. (3:10-18)
The one thing that may be more amazing than God’s grace is man’s continual disobedience and rejection of Him.

  • Newsies
    Sermon Scripture:  Romans 1:1-17
Sermon Big Idea:  We, like Paul, have a purpose, passion, and path we are called to take.  And it all leads to grace.
    Paul – Acts 7:58, 8:3, 9:1-6
Rome – don’t know who started it. Letter probably 56-57 AD. Heart of the beast
Our purpose is to abide by God’s calling (v. 1)Servant – John 13:14-15Apostle – sent one – Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8Set apart – 2 Cor. 3:2Our passion is the message of the Gospel (v. 2-7)Promised beforehandBy prophets – Isaiah 53:3-5Declared by the resurrection – 1 Cor. 15:13-14Bring about obedience of faith for HIS sakeIncluding those called to belong to JesusOur path starts in Kalkaska (v. 8-15)Does history matter as much as present with the Gospel?Very important to start here firstAre we constantly praying for our community? – 1 Thess. 5:17This is our mission – Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8Our pistis will be our mode and our model (v. 16-17)From our faith we have strength to share – Mark 13:11In our faith is our message that is the power of God
We have the greatest message in the world, our God reigns!

  • The Fearful Seafarers
    Today’s Scripture:  Mark 4, Jonah 1, Joshua 24
Big Idea:  Fear God. He holds everything else we are afraid of in his hands.
A cultivated heart is ready to receive God’s Word and increase in faith.A hidden faith is extinguished.  A faith displayed will increase in impact. In a healthy environment, faith grows.Luke 17 – The kingdom of God is within youFaith may start small, but when properly placed, it grows to great significance. When we have confidence in what Jesus can do, faith overcomes fear.
    Jesus calms the storm
With growth, we don’t fear death – 1 Cor. 15:54-55With growth, we don’t fear a lack of provision – Matthew 6:26With growth, we don’t fear the loss of loved ones – With growth, we identify who controls the storms – Mark 4With growth, we know whom to fear and what NOT to fear – Jonah 1:15-16,
    Joshua 24:14-15
The answer to fear and anxiety is growing in our relationship with God. There isn’t room for fear if we use all we are to follow Him

  • A Higher Love
    Sermon Scripture:  Romans 5:1-10
Sermon Big Idea:  An even higher love than a son’s death is the Son’s life.
When hardships come we discover faith (v, 1)John 20:8 – John saw and believedWhen hardships come we discover hope (v. 2-5)John 18 – Peter denies JesusJohn 21 – Peter is welcomed back and charged by JesusActs 2,3 – Peter boldly preaches the GospelWhen hardships come we discover love (v. 6-8)Luke 23:39-43 – The thief on the crossWhen hardships come we discover life (v. 9-10)John 20:16-18 Mary MagdalenePhilippians 1:21Romans 6:4-5 “a resurrection like his.”
Conclusion:  Jesus’ love didn’t stop at dying for our sins.  It continued by resurrecting so we can have eternal life.

  • The Real Trophy
Job repents by humbling himself before God – Job 42:1-6If my people will…2 Chronicles 7:11-14Peter in the Temple.  Acts 3:19Job’s friends are called to repent by God – Job 42:7-9God gives repentance instructionThe size of the sacrifice tells us how upset God wasJob is allowed to intercede for his friends/enemiesReconciliation? – Matthew 5:44, Proverbs 25:21-22Prayers of the righteous – James 5:16Job is restored with blessings from God – Job 42:10-11The stuff was niceBut the knowledge is better – Proverbs 1:7Job sees God more clearly
    What was Job repenting of?
Did his stuff become idols?  It didn’t appear so
He was repenting for wanting to be god and expecting to be given answers.
The true blessing given to Job was not the doubling of his stuff, but the ability to see God more clearly.

  • The Answer We Don’t Want
    Job 38:1-3
Our arrogance leads us to want answers. We must accept God’s wisdom “like a man.”How will we answer the questions God has for us?
    Job 38:4-7
Where were we when He created everything? Our view of God is limited to our short life.
    Job 38:12-27;39:1-4
Do we know how God established everything? Our view of the world is limited to our little piece of it.Our view of life is limited to human life.
    Job 40:1-14
Will we discredit God to prove ourselves right? Our view of justice is limited to our small mind.
A limited view and understanding of God can lead man to question as though he were God himself.  As much as man wanted and wants to be God; he is not.
The answer we want is one that brings clarity and concrete answers.  The answer we receive is to…”Be still and know that I am God.”
    Proverbs 3:5-8

  • Forced Preparation
    Job 33-37
Big Idea:  The pain Job is suffering and that you and I suffer is to purify our life, not punish our life.
Why is this happening?Options we consider:
    God’s wrathSatan’s temptationGod’s testingOur fallen world
Who is this 4th friend?Should we lump Elihu in with Job’s friends?
God didn’t reprimand himJob didn’t respond to himWhat he says seems to be on point
God will take drastic measures to get our attention. (33:14-26)As good of people as we may think we are, we still sin.  (34:5-10)The core of our battle against sin is pride. (35:10-12)If we listen and serve Him, our pain strengthens us. (36:5-11)
At all times, remember the wondrous works of God. (37:14-24)
Regardless of why this is happening, we need to find a way to seek God during it, so that we might journey with Jesus and become like Him.What will really be a shame is if we are at the same place when this is done as when we started it.
