  • Kansas City Baseball Vault (11/3/14):- World Series Wrapup And What's Next
After some time off to watch the World Series, we put off recording the first offseason show long enough.

Of course, the Royals did not finish their dream run through the playoffs, but it was still a great showing. We talked about the memories, the new fans, and just how special the 2014 season turned out to be, even if Madison Bumgarner ended it.

And since the season is over, we looked at the impact of departing free agents, mostly notably Billy Butler (whose option for 2015 was declined by the team), James Shields, and Nori Aoki.

Is this the only time we'll see the Royals in the playoffs this generation, or can they keep building on this?

  • Kansas City Baseball Vault - 10/16/14 - World Series Bound (LIVE Show Recording)
Hot on the heels of a Kansas City Royals American League Championship -- no, really -- we threw it back to our roots. Back in the first months of the Vault, we did the show live and let things go where they would go so we did the same with this one, via a Google Hangout.

So we brought Troy "KC Royalman" back to host and shared in the euphoria of an upcoming Royals World Series appearance.

We talked about the path of the season, the perception of Dayton Moore, the likelihood of keeping the success going, and what it means as long time fans to see the Royals doing well, finally.

We also discussed fandom and attendance, and who we want to see across from the Royals in the World Series.

As always, we're sponsored by Kelly's Westport Inn, the official unofficial Royals watch party destination.

  • Kansas City Baseball Vault - 10/1/14 - "Wild"
After 29 years, postseason baseball returned to Kansas City. Jeff and Mike talked with Kevin Scobee about Tuesday night's wild card game and the elements that went into the Royals' comeback.

But we looked a little past just the events of the game. We talked about the impact a game like this has and what it means about how the Royals have been constructed, including a focus on specialists, speed, leadership, and an emphasis on contact in a strikeout world.

Then Kevin took off, but we kept going, this time talking about some of the weird moments - the Ventura decision, the bunts, the double "steal" - and how it fits with Ned Yost's track record.

But it's a happy time, so we had to also talk about what is to come and the Angels and the ALDS and what other impressions we have from the Wild Card game.

  • Kansas City Baseball Vault (9/22/14) Royals Playoff Picture And Dayton Moore Speculation
Right after the Royals (finally) finished the suspended game against Cleveland and while Danny Duffy was dealing, Mike and Jeff talked about the Royals improving (or dwindling?) playoff odds in light of a near-disaster against Detroit and how the rest of the contenders shape up.

Also, we discussed Dayton Moore as a candidate for Atlanta's open GM position and what it means for him and his legacy. He's done good things for the organization, but has he done enough? And could (or would) a different GM do everything he's done, but better? Or worse?
