  • College Football Today
The big game with the local schools is either Kansas State vs Nevada or Kansas vs Baylor depending on your interests. Missouri hosts SEMO in what should be a big win for the Tigers. I discuss those games and then run down 13 other big games on Saturday, including my game of the day of Alabama at Florida.

  • That's What They Said
This week we heard Andy Reid talk about the importance of getting Tyrann Mathieu back on the field. Peter Vermes discussed how the team will handle ten days off before they play first-place Seattle. Lance Leipold saw some encouraging signs after the Coastal Carolina game, but it took some time for him to come up with them. Chris Klieman acknowledged that Will Howard didn't play well last weekend. And Eli Drinkwitz explained to reporters that he is coaching college football where wins and losses matter, so Johnnie won't necessarily get in the game this weekend. You need to hear this.

  • That's What They Said
It’s Thursday, so it’s time for another episode discussing some of the more interesting statements made over the past week in Kansas City sports. This week I have some Chiefs quotes leading up to opening day. Peter Vermes makes his That’s What They Said debut. And, of course, we have the head coaches of the three local schools. Let’s talk sports!

  • That's What They Said
It's the first edition of a regular podcast episode I'm calling "That's What They Said". I'll bring you sound bites from press conferences over the past week. I'll give you my thoughts on the sound bites and you can send me your thoughts on Twitter@KCSportsMonitor.
This first episode consists of sound bites from Kansas football coach Lance Leipold, Kansas State football coach Chris Klieman, and Missouri football coach Eli Drinkwitz as they prepare for their first games of the season.

  • News and Frustration
It’s the time of year when we hear sports writers talk down to fans saying to not be happy about a football player being cut. Let me set them straight.
Realignment watching has gone the route of coaching searches. A plane flight from Ames to Ohio State University got some attention Sunday.
The Royals have some decisions to make when rosters expand in September. Who is going to get the call? Who should get the call? And what do the regular position players look like for 2022? I’ll tell you what should be done.
Television announcers and reporters don’t have a clue when it comes to a pitcher’s responsibility. Ryan Lefebvre proves that in the first inning Sunday when he made excuses for Brady Singer. And Singer didn’t support Edward Olivares in the postgame press conference. Rex Hudler said that the fans have to be patient! No! The Royals chose this rebuilding process, not the fans!
College football really starts this weekend. All three local colleges are in action and the schedule lines up great to watch all three.
The Mets are booing their own fans! And recently acquired Javier Baez is one of the ringleaders along with Francisco Lindor and Kevin Pillar. Only the Mets…

  • Week In Review
There is a lot to discuss this weekend. We launched KC Sports Monitor+ on Saturday. The NCAA wants major changes in its role and authority. Texas and Oklahoma are officially headed to the SEC. Training camp started for the Chiefs. The Royals made a couple of trades at the trading deadline. And Missouri fired its athletic director. It was a busy week. I’ll also look ahead to next week.

  • The Big 12 Accuses ESPN of Trying To Destroy The Conference
The Big 12 said Wednesday that ESPN has been conspiring with other conferences to try to destroy the Big 12. I'll explain what that is all about.
Chiefs' training camp started Wednesday. The starting offensive line was kind of what we expected but still somewhat of a surprise for an Andy Reid team.
Dayton Moore recently discussed his approach to the trade deadline. You might not be happy, but it does make sense to some extent.
Missouri fired AD Jim Sterk. He and the school reportedly mutually agreed to him leaving on Tuesday, but on Wednesday we saw the terms of the separation and it's definitely a firing.

  • Texas and Oklahoma Give Their Notice
Texas and Oklahoma informed the Big 12 that they would not extend their grant of rights past the 2024-25 season. This clears the way for them to join the SEC.
Daniel Lynch pitched a wonderful game on Sunday. We have heard about his talent, but this was the first time we had seen it.
Will the Royals make a trade at the trade deadline? We have heard the talk about Whit Merrifield, but could Jorge Soler be an option now?

  • It's time for John Sherman to do his job
The buck stops with ownership. Regardless of what you think about where things are going wrong with the Royals, it is the job of ownership to fix things. It's time for John Sherman and his ownership group, and yes that includes Patrick Mahomes, to do their job and fix it.

  • Brady Singer Pitches Well, Kansas B-Ball Is Loaded, and more...
Brady Singer pitched his first good game since April 24! I talked about that and where things stand with the young starting pitching. I played Who's Worse Than The Royals? I discussed the loaded Kansas basketball roster now that Agbaji, Wilson, and Martin have withdrawn from the NBA draft. And I talked about Sporting's win over the LA Galaxy and if they are as good as their record indicates. Oh, it's good to be back.
