    Where is your focus?

We direct our focus to the things we want others to be doing - and noticing what they are not doing that we feel like they should be.

However, learning to direct the focus back to you and what you can do, what you should be doing, and what you can control, will change your outlook. When you can learn to accept what you can control, it will help drastically. You can control 3 things.1. Your own thoughts.2. Your own actions.3. Your own feelings.

When you can recognize that your thoughts and feeling are very intertwined, you will also realize that your actions are result of those thoughts/feelings.

For example - I used to be so annoyed that no one was cleaning up breakfast before leaving for school. Dishes were left everywhere, and whatever we'd used was just left. I was so annoyed everyone just expected me to always clean up after them.

Well, I decided that I'd make more of an effort to get everyone to help pick things up. Then, once most of the kids are out the door, I take time to finish tidying the kitchen. It has made a world of difference! I know it's a small, silly thing, but for me, it mades a huge difference.

Accepting Reality can be so difficult. Have you ever had those moments that you just don't want to accept what is really happening? Or do you struggle to feel like you fit in with those around you?

However, part of accepting your own reality is really embracing that you, and those around you (family, friends, neighbors, etc) are exactly as they're supposed to be. Accepting the personality, characteristics, and circumstances of our lives and the lives of others allows us to live our lives more fully!

When we can accept the reality of whatever situation we are in, and embrace it the best we can, we begin to work towards improving ourselves in that situation.

    Accepting Reality This Week

This week one of my kids ended up getting a positive COVID test. It took all of us by surprise. We isolated that child, and worked together to clear the house of germs. Our entire family is in quarantine and have no idea if anyone else has it yet. While we will still be testing periodically ... but it's still a HUGE unknown. If any one else gets it, our quarantine has to start all over again. This has been a hard thing to accept the reality.

    The Struggle With Reality

When we decided to be accepting that we'll be missing things, rescheduling things, it became a little easier. It's mostly been hard to accept and learn from on of my kids potentially missing every single night of her school play performances. My son has been working for months at practices and has been so excited about it. We just have to wait to find out the details on IF he can perform. That will hinge on IF no one else gets COVID. We still have 7 more days of hanging out in our house with no outside contact. A lot is still up in the air.

How do we learn self love? Honestly ... hard work!

To learn that true self love comes when we realize that we are the only person that NEEDS to love ourselves! We must have self love. We can not guarantee that anyone will ever show us love. If we can't find it within ourselves, it will be hard to fully accept it from other people.

Knowing that you are exactly the person who you are you supposed to be, is the first step to find self love.

You are the friend your friends need. You are the mother your kids need. The person you are, is who you are supposed to be TODAY. You can change and improve, and move forward. As you move forward, you will start to become the person you will need to be in a few weeks! But today, you are who you are supposed to be.

Your worth is not based on your achievements.

You have worth because you were born into this world! Every person was born with worth. Every. Single. Person. You have worth and it is always with you. You do not have to do anything to earn it or accomplish anything to have more. Worth is inside of you already! It's inside all of us.

    Take care of YOU!

Take a little bit of time - even 5 or 10 minutes - to just take a deep break, relax, bake something, etc. What brings you joy? Figure out something that brings you joy, and do that. Schedule it into your day somehow. It doesn't have to be for long. Set a 10 minutes timer and just focus on you for 10 minutes! It will change you!

Ember Pilati from Emerge Empowered is joining us on the podcast today. She is sharing her story about being a recovering perfectionist and learning to have self love.

In high school Ember was involved in so many things. She is telling her story about how that worked for her. She explains how her worth came from her accomplishments. Ember graduated high school, and while finishing college she was able to fulfill her dream of owning a dance studio. During her time as a dance studio owner, she also became a mother. Her life was all about how much she could do and accomplish.

However, relying on her perfectionism and being able to "do it all" started to come to a head as a dance studio owner, a mother of 2 small kids. Since her worth seemed to be all about her to-do list and wondering, how much did I get accomplished? How well did I do them? Life progressed as it always had in her perfectionism state.

After Ember had her 4th baby, her husband began an EMBA (so he was gone all day, most days), it was winter and she was trying to adjust to having 4 kids, postpartum depression hit her hard. She was able to get the help needed and able to move forward. Then, a couple years later, another baby came along as an unexpected gift to their family. Being a mother of 5 is something she had never planned. She had been a planner, and perfectionist and this was not part of it!

Ember teaches us that perfectionism is just the dressed up fear of not being enough.

Ember gives us 3 tools to help us really overcome perfectionism and really relish in the reality of our lives, and have self-love. Perfectionism is just the dressed up fear of not being enough.

    * Learn to love your whole self.* Accepting Reality.* Focus on what you have control of.

  • Keeping Promises to You | Creating Time for Your Goal

Why are we all so quick to keep promises to other people, but when it comes to ourselves we seem to slack off?

Get your 10 Minute Takeaway Worksheet Here!

Keeping our own goals, promises and commitments is HARD. It is doable. We have to be willing to keep the promise to ourselves. We have to keep the promise like we keep an appointment with the doctor. When we are willing to do that, big changes happen.

Take time each morning to look over your schedule and put in the time for yourself first. Pick a time that will work for you to work on your goal, even if it's just for a couple of minutes. Then make sure you don't let that time slip away into something else you think is more important. You are important enough to use your time for yourself! Did you hear me? You. Are. Important. Enough! Take the time. Put in the effort. You will ALWAYS be able to do more when you can take a few minutes to keep your own promises.

We often think that keep our promises to ourselves won't help anyone but ourselves. As a mother of 6 kids VERY close together, I can promise you that that is false. When you take a little bit of time to do something meaningful to you and that lifts your energy and spirit, you have far more to give to everyone around you. That's essential when you're a mother, a co-worker, or anyone that has to help and serve others. How will you keep your promises to yourself?
