Karate in the Garage

Here is the rare thing to have: a FIFTH Kickstart in the same month!

We hope you all enjoyed Moore Moore Moore!!! this month. The new theme starts this week with Patreon's Early Access on Wednesday, and then gen pub on Friday 2/2.

ENJOY!

YES. SAG-AFTRA HAVE FINALLY JOINED THE WGA, AND HAS COME TO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE AMPTP. IT'S BEEN A VERY LONG AND UPHILL BATTLE FOR NOT JUST THE MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES OF BOTH UNIONS, IT HAS ALSO CAUSED A GREAT DEAL OF HARDSHIP FOR THE REST OF THE INDUSTRY'S PROFESSIONALS AND THEIR FAMILIES.

BUT ALL ISN'T BACK TO NORMAL AND WON'T BE FOR SOME TIME. THESE WORKERS AND THEIR FAMILIES ARE GOING TO BE STRUGGLING WHILE THE INDUSTRY STARTS REMEMBERING HOW TO WORK. THE OVERWHELMING BURDEN OF PUTTING FOOD ON THE TABLE AND A ROOF OVER ONE'S HEAD DOESN'T END WHEN THE DEALS ARE MADE OR EVEN RATIFIED.

THE INDUSTRY'S USUAL HIATUS/SHUTDOWN THIS MONTH IS MOST LIKELY GOING TO EXTEND ANY KIND OF BREAK FROM "NORMALCY" IN THE FREQUENCY OF WORK. IT COULD EVEN BE MONTHS INTO 2024 BEFORE PRODUCTIONS GET UP TO SPEED AGAIN. BUT EVEN IF THEY WORK THROUGH THAT USUAL "HOLIDAY HIATUS", FOR MANY FAMILIES THEY ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO NEED ASSISTANCE, EVEN IF THEY RETURN TO WORK. THIS IS WHERE YOU CAN HELP.

IF YOU HAVE A FEW DOLLARS TO SPARE, PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING TO THE ENTERTAINMENT COMMUNITY FUND. THE FUND HELPS ALL WORKERS AFFECTED BY THE STRIKE, NOT JUST ACTORS AND WRITERS.

We're at the finish line of Moore Moore Moore! We close it all out with Demi in her most baddass as Lieutenant Jordan O'Neill in GI Jane from Director Ridley Scott.

Along for this tour of duty is a slew of 1990s character actors doing what they do best. From the likes of Morris Chestnut, Scott Wilson, David Vadim, Kevin Gage, and legend Anne Bancroft as Senator Lillian DeHaven. But it's Demi's antagonistic foil Master Chief Urgayle is pre-Aragorn Viggo Mortenson that makes the strongest stand of that group.

MOORE MOORE MOORE!!! rambles on down to Florida to dive into 1996's Striptease! With what may be the most well rounded supporting players of the four movies we're covering this month, we've got Burt Reynolds, Armand Assante, Ving Rhames, and Robert Patrick as Demi Moore's dirtbag ex-husband.

We're BACK with MOORE, MOORE, MOORE!!! with Movie #2 DISCLOSURE!

Demi Moore continues her reign of owning the 1990s with a powerhouse performance from her as Meredith Johnson stepping into a company and becoming former lover Michael Douglas' boss, nabbing a job her was expecting to get.

Along with those two leads, Director Barry Levinson assembles a who's who of 80s and 90s supporting performers in Donald Sutherland, Dylan Baker, Roma Maffia, Dennis Miller and young Donald Logue.

Karate in the Garage Linkages

This episode was recorded back in early March 2022 before Freddy headed to Atlanta for One Fast Move.

We've got 2001's Josie and the Pussycats starring Rachel Leigh Cook, Rosario Dawson, and Tara Reid as the rockin' trio just waiting for their big break while playing huge gigs like the local bowling alley.

Along for the ride, and playing their nastiness to the hilt, are Parker Posey and Alan Cumming as the record executives that pluck the girls from Riverdale obscurity and "help" them become pop superstars literally overnight. That's how the music business works, right?

Written and Directed by Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont (both from Can't Hardly Wait) serve up the dense satire on what happens when music and commerce collide.

We're 8 days into this new year, and we still can't wrap our heads around that it's 2023. But, here we are.

Last week, we dropped 1991's Mortal Thoughts to kick off our Moore, Moore, Moore!!! theme, and the consensus is we picked a movie a lot of people hadn't seen yet. That's as exciting as anything when we turn people onto something they hadn't seen before.

#2 will drop on Patreon via Early Access on Tuesday, and Friday for the general public release.

Those of you new to us via Spotify, welcome!

Hey, all. It's 2024's bloom. It's January. But unlike last year's January Dumping Ground theme, we have what some would call the Queen of the 90s. Demi Moore. All month long. It's Moore Moore Moore!

Movie #1, in what maybe one of boldest film choices after blowing up with Ghost the year before, we have Mortal Thoughts. Along with Demi, Glenne Headley, Bruce Willis, John Pankow, with Harvey Keitel as Detective John Woods.
