God asks us to consider it joy when we endure trials. Multiple Bible verses remind us to rejoice always. But how do we find joy when we are worried about finances, unhappy with our work or marriage, or fearful about the future? Its one thing to be homeless, but homeless during a pandemic can be even more daunting. Shelters must have appropriate space. Hot food may not always be available. Access to health care, transportation, and more may all be affected. Dewayne Stephens knows all too well how addiction patterns begin. As the executive director of the House of Refuge, he has heard the stories--men who were introduced to drugs as teens by a mother's boyfriend or a stepfather, individuals with traumatic memories they wish they could forget, others struggling with extreme, toxic stress. "These men, some of them never had a chance." But when they come to the House of Refuge, things turn around for them.

The House of Refuge was established in 1995 by Pastor Alfred Johnson of the Church of the First Born. It is a Christ-centered residential ministry helping men overcome their life-controlling addictions so they can successfully re-enter society as productive citizens. They now operate three separate facilities in the greater Chattanooga area with a total capacity to serve 24 men.To learn more, click Here.

Steve Skipper is one of the most prolific artists in the realms of sports, civil-rights, equestrian, portraiture, and Christian artwork. Skipper has shattered barriers of race and education in the art world.
