  • Ways to Grow in Your Spiritual Life

Today, on Karl and Crew, we kicked off our “going under the hood” weekly theme with a discussion about the unseen spiritual disciplines that cultivate our spiritual lives. Spiritual disciplines are practices that grow and deepen our spiritual lives, such as prayer, fasting, or quiet time with the Lord. What is an unseen discipline that is most beneficial to your spiritual life? We had a few of our listeners answer this question and share their stories. We also had Dr. Ronnie Floyd join us to speak on the importance of fasting. Dr. Floyd is a speaker, author, and encourager dedicated to helping others, committed to the next generation, and empowering leaders. He is also the host of the weekly podcast called “For Leaders Podcast with Ronnie Floyd.” Dr. Bill Thrasher also joined us to provide insight into finding delight in our prayer life. Dr. Thrasher is the Lead Professor in the Master’s Program in Spiritual Formation and Discipleship at Moody Bible Institute. He is also a frequent speaker across the country. He has also written several books, including “How to Resurrect a Dead Prayer Life: Transforming Your Prayers Into a Spirit-Empowered, Life-Giving Adventure.” You can hear the highlights of today’s program on the Karl and Crew Showcast.

  • God’s Word Brings Life

Today, on Karl and Crew, we discussed the importance of being rooted in the Lord and His Word. We turned to Psalm 1, which compares a child of God to a tree. A child of God is considered a tree planted by the waters, has flourishing leaves, yields fruit in their season, meditates on the word day and night,  and their nourishment comes from God. The chapter then speaks about the ungodly and how its tree is weaker, taken by the wind, and will perish because it's not rooted in Him. We turned to the phone lines to hear from our listeners about the scriptures they hold onto. We also had Greg Dempter join us to talk about the disruptive emotions leaders can feel during chaos and busyness, and how inner peace comes only from God through all that noise. Greg Dempster is the Founder and Director of ChristLife Ministries, an organization that transforms Christian leaders from various denominational backgrounds. He has also been a senior leader, elder, and ministry director. We also had Asheritah CiuCiu join us to discuss the importance of intimacy with the Lord during quiet time. Asheritah is a national speaker, bestselling author, and founder of One Thing Alone Ministries, an online ministry that helps overwhelmed women find joy in Jesus. She also has a YouTube page where she has posted a video called “Delighting in Jesus: Guided Prayers and Bible Study Tips.” You can hear the highlights of today’s program on the Karl and Crew Showcast.

  • The Greatest Father of All, a Boom Crew Testimony, and Anne Graham Lotz

Today, on Karl and Crew, we wrapped up our weekly theme of “Fathers in the Bible” by discussing the greatest father of all, God. We turned to Luke 15:11-24 to analyze the parable of the Prodigal Son, as it relates to the rejoice and warm embrace our Heavenly Father has waiting for us whenever we come to Him. Our Heavenly Father wants an intimate and devoted relationship with us all, but we have to cast away the things of the world and submit to Him as the Prodigal son did when returning to his father. We also heard from Anne Graham Lotz, who shared her memorable moments with her Dad, Billy Graham, before his passing. Anne is known for her deep biblical wisdom, as she speaks globally and was called “the best preacher in the family” by her late father. We also had Karl pop in from Burundi, East Africa, to provide us with an update on what’s going on there. Then we heard a testimony from one of the listeners in the Boom Crew, Josiah. You can hear the highlights of today’s program on the Karl and Crew Showcast.

  • Breaking Generational Curses, the importance of Discipleship, and Building a Father-Daughter Connection

Today, Karl and Crew continued the weekly theme of “Fathers in the Bible” by discussing how God can break generational curses passed down through families. As followers of Christ, we have a Father who can deliver us from wicked patterns, so long as we turn to Him for guidance. We see this in 2 Kings 21, where we read about King Manasseh, the most wicked king in the Bible. Manasseh chose to do evil in the sight of the Lord, and after his reign, one of his sons, Amon, followed in his footsteps; however, his grandson, Josiah, broke the pattern and sought the Lord throughout his reign as king. We also heard similar stories from our listeners as they called to share how they chose a different path than their family when pursuing the Lord. We then spoke with David Stephens about the importance of discipleship with younger believers. David is a pastor, speaker, and coach with nearly 20 years of experience leading and discipling young adults. He has also authored the book “Getting It Together: 10 Lessons to Help Young Adults Live an Insanely Fruitful Life.” Dr. Michelle Watson Canfield also joined us to discuss the importance of a Father-Daughter relationship. Dr. Canfield is a licensed professional counselor, national speaker, and author. She is also the founder of The Abba Project, a nine-month group forum for dads whose daughters are in their teens and 20s. • Father-Figures in Mark, Speaking Life in Marriage, and Chris Fabry

Today on Karl and Crew, we analyzed the fatherly demeanor of Jesus and Jairus in Mark Chapter 5. In verses 21-43 of the chapter, we see Jesus heal a bleeding woman and restore life to Jairus’s daughter in a nurturing and loving manner. We also see Jairus's unwavering faith as he patiently trusts Jesus’s healing power over his daughter. Then we had Ann Wilson join us to provide some insight on the importance of affirming your partner in marriage. Ann and her husband, Dave, are the co-hosts of Family Life Today, which airs weekly at 11 am on 90.1 FM. They’ve been married for over 44 years and have spent three decades teaching and mentoring couples and parents nationally. • Father-Figures in Exodus, the role of Stepdads, and Janet Parshall

Today on Karl and Crew, we continued our weekly theme of Fathers in the Bible as we flipped to Exodus 18 to analyze Moses and his father-in-law, Jethro, as father-figures. We saw how Jethro provided counsel to Moses regarding his leadership, and because of the context of their relationship and who Jethro was, Moses was humble and receptive to it. Often, God places father-figures in our lives to help guide and counsel us because they may have experience or wisdom in areas we may not. We turned to the phone lines to hear about the father-figures in the lives of our listeners and how they impacted their lives. We also had Ron Deal join us to discuss the role and significance of a non-biological father figure, the step-dad. Ron is a best-selling author, licensed marriage and family therapist, podcaster, and popular conference speaker. He is also the Founder and President of Smart Stepfamilies and Director of Blended, a division of Family Life. Ron has authored several books, including “The Smart Stepdad.” Janet Parshall also joined us in analyzing the worldview of the modern woman with that of a godly woman. Janet hosts the national program, In the Market with Janet Parshall, which airs weekdays from 4-6 pm CT. She has been broadcasting from the nation’s capital for over three decades and has spoken internationally. You can hear the highlights of today’s program on the Karl and Crew Showcast.

  • God Has Freed Me and Here’s My Story

On this Freedom Friday, we celebrated the freedom that comes from having a relationship with Jesus and no longer being in darkness. Sometimes, we can do all the right things but remain lost. We could attend church every Sunday, participate in Bible Study, sing with the choir, volunteer,  etc., but still not know who Christ is. The testimonies shared by Karl and Crew this week shed some light on how each member had a false sense of salvation at a point in their walk with Christ. Today, we asked our listeners to share their coming-to-Christ stories. Was there a time when you were in church but didn’t know Christ? You can hear the highlights of today’s program on the Karl and Crew Showcast.
