His advice to the next generation is,"It’s important to keep in touch with the media in the Philippines. A huge part to understanding and assimilating to a culture is to understand not only the history of the place, but the pop culture media that the Philippine locality is exposed to. An example would be when I watched Derry Girls on Netflix. I only stayed in Dublin for 2 months but knowing the history and a general knowledge of the geography and its pop culture helped me appreciate the jokes and the show more."

"Learn where your from so you know where you're going. Probably hypocritical of me to quote Rizal but in tagalog “Ang hindi marunong lumingon a pinaggalingan ay hindi makakarating sa paroroonan.”
It's fitting especially for 1st to however many generations of Filipinos in the US. Most of the time, values and norms get lost in translation so we don't necessarily tend to drill the importance of the simplicity of language or values that is of our own Filipino identity. So just ask your grandparents, parents and those that came before you stories that made them who they are as Filipinos. It's shocking to know that they used to be this completely different person and if ever more, rewarding to get to know how youre built as a Filipino.
But don't stop there, dig deeper.

Learn more about your family history, especially if you have grandparents around who can speak of your ancestors. Who you are is a culmination of all who have come before you.
This work - decolonization - is not easy. White supremacy pervades in every facet of our lives and it can feel hopeless sometimes. Be gentle with yourself as you embark on the journey towards your higher self. You don’t have to go through this alone!

Her advice to the next generation to our Filipinx diaspora is to always to Keep learning the language-- a lot of young people are forgetting their native language and our language is such an important part of our culture. There are a lot of resources available so don't be scared to seek out help. And what my teacher had told me “Never forget your roots, but don’t let it hold you back.”

When it came to pre interview and post interview, Ranielle is a very intellectual person who has a eye to seeing both perspectives of what it means to be both Filipino and American. Through out this process of reclaiiming his Filipinx Identity, he mentioned that, "you need to understand the culture of the Philippines (more than just the stereotype of eating rice with your hands or getting beaten by the nearest object); it’s understanding why we are the way we are, what the country went through (all of the colonization and what they went through to be." and that is the importance of it. As an aspiring law/immigration lawyer, he wants to make an accessible path for the rest of the FIlipinx diaspora.

It was always very easy for me to dismiss any stories of relatives.
