I am beyond excited to be joined my sister in many ways, Michele Holmes this episode. We both know what it means to take that LAEP OF FAITH to leave one career to pursue something else we are passionate about. In the words of Michele, "being an educator wasn't all roses & sunshine, but neither is entrepreneurship."
At the heart of Skye Confections is educator and award winning cake artist, Michele Holmes. Growing up in Atlanta, Georgia, the time spent with her grandmother at the family soul-food restaurant and home kitchen sparked an interest in baking. While initially pursuing a career in education, Michele continued to be drawn to baking. Since 2011, this self-taught baker/decorator and aspiring bakery boutique owner has perfected a variety of techniques with her fresh homemade cakes as the foundation.
For many years Michele balanced a career as an "educator by day, baker by night", however, the pandemic encouraged a pivot. After 10 years, she officially transitioned out of public education. She has now combined her love for cake and education by solely operating Skye Confections LLC as an online bakery and Skye Confections Academy for virtual Cakin’ classes. Michele’s passion for excellence is evident as she strives to create modern desserts which taste just as good as they look and develops classes to help youth and adults learn to do the same.
Skye Confections is a business with a heart for people. In addition to planting seeds in the next generation of bakers and cake decorators, Skye Confections has partnered with Icing Smiles, a non-profit organization that provides custom celebration cakes to children impacted by a critical illness since 2015. We believe every person has at least one reason to celebrate and deserves a quality cake. If you are celebrating within the Metro Atlanta area, Skye Confections would LOVE to sweeten your day with a quality PIECE of CAKE!
