Santa Barbara Mayor Helene Schneider gave a memorable acceptance speech and broke into song during her acceptance speech as a 2017 "Woman of Achievement." The awards were handed out on Friday by the Association for Women in Communications, Santa Barbara chapter. Entrepreneur Patty DeDominic was also honored at the event.

President Donald Trump has announced that he will start the 4 year-long process to remove the United States from the 2015 Paris Climate Accord. A 48 hour ‘Fasting 4 love” demonstration wrapped up last week. Students from the Chicano Studies 169: Religion in Social Movements class, organized the event in the Arbor at UCSB. In 2013, UC President Janet Napolitano launched an initiative to decarbonize all of the UC campuses by 2025. The Global Climate Leadership Council met last week at UC San Francisco to discuss and review the progress of this initiative.
