This week in Sea of Thieves, we've got a video to address with the community from Drew. Most of the topics are about Season 20 and the hotfixes and changes coming in. Whether those will work out remains to be seen, as we already have conflicting reports from streamers stating those previous hotfixes aren't working as intended. Outside of that, there are some good changes to Custom Seas planned for the future as the Community strives to build the game they want Rare to make. Additionally, Last Ship Standing is getting some promises for future content as well as opening up the mode to different ship types!

Rare has been closely monitoring the community’s feedback and stepped in to tweak the overall pacing of matches. You can expect a better flow that keeps battles from dragging on indefinitely, alongside a much-appreciated extension for victors to catch their breath and claim their spoils at the end of a fight.

They’ve also squashed a major bug that was leaving some crews stranded before the battle even began. However, the seas aren't entirely smooth just yet—the developers are actively tracking a few lingering performance hiccups behind the scenes. Because of this, a couple of lobby and queue features have been temporarily paused while they iron out the kinks. Time to gather your crew and see how the new waters feel!

The latest Sea of Thieves update introduces Last Ship Standing, an intense six-Sloop battle royale mode in the Sea of the Damned featuring shrinking boundaries, custom arena environments, and placement-based Allegiance rewards. Alongside this major PvP addition, the developers have addressed player feedback by replacing the blinding red edge-of-map effects with a cleaner greyscale tint, doubling Reaper's Chest rewards to 20 Doubloons, and moving Duke and Larinna’s markets back to a monthly restocking cadence to better match player earning rates. The patch also delivers essential game health improvements, resolving item desynchronization bugs in supply barrels and officially clearing out a glitch that accidentally spawned a prototype "Silence Ball" cursed cannonball across the outpost islands.

This week in Sea of Thieves is a hard one to talk about, and while I think it's an important issue, it's not something that I want people to go out and look into if you're averse to sensitive topics like harassment, abuse, or grooming. Aside from that, Last Ship Standing and Twitch drops were delayed to this week. I'm having a hard time wanting to engage with the game, and honestly, I need Rare to do better.

As Season 19 enters its final act, Sea of Thieves players are preparing for the May 14th launch of Last Ship Standing, a high-stakes Sloop battle royale that pits up to six crews against each other in the Sea of the Damned for increased Allegiance rewards. However, the excitement for this event is currently being overshadowed by a heated debate within the community regarding a massive overhaul of the Season Pass scheduled for Season 20. Rare plans to condense progression from 100 levels down to 50 "meaningful" stages and shift Renown earning away from passive activities like sailing toward more deliberate actions like completing voyages. While the developers argue this adds value and clarity, many veteran players in the Insider forums have labeled the changes as "anti-consumer," citing the removal of free-earnable Ancient Coins and the introduction of purchasable level skips as a move toward more predatory monetization. Amidst this controversy, pirates can still look forward to lighter content, such as the ‘Soulflame Captain’ soundtrack release and a new batch of Twitch Drops starting May 15th, featuring the Amethyst Mercenary set and the Graveyard Gladiator Figurehead.
