She has significant deal experience as an investment banker and as a partner with a venture firm, and she has raised $300+MM from leading institutional and strategic investors.

At Hearst Corp., reporting to the CEO, Beth created and for five years led Hearst Corporate Innovation, fostering a company-wide culture of innovation and knowledge-sharing and establishing a pipeline of internally-generated ideas for new digital businesses.

As the founder of The Critical Junctures Group, Beth works closely with senior decision-makers to help them find the insights and strategies they need to navigate through critical junctures. Her goal is to consistently provide vision, create value, and produce results.

Beth is certified in Stakeholder Centered Coaching and was selected out of over 16,000 global applicants to participate in Dr. Marshall Goldsmith’s 100 Coaches Program (#MG100). She is on the board of UGA’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication Beth has an AB in anthropology from Franklin and Marshall College and an MBA from Harvard.

Karl Mecklenburg

NFL All-Pro, Former Denver Bronco #77, Leadership Expert

For Episode 77 of the Keep Leading!® podcast, I sat down with retired Denver Broncos Football player Karl Mecklenburg! Karl, who wore #77, was an NFL All-Pro Player who is now a Leadership Expert and Keynote Speaker. He shared his C’s of Leadership methodology with me.

Bio

Karl Mecklenburg rose from a college walk-on and twelfth round draft choice to an NFL career that included three Super Bowl and six Pro Bowl appearances. This former Bronco’s captain spent his entire twelve-year career in Denver and makes Colorado his home now. Mecklenburg was arguably the most versatile player in the NFL, playing all seven defensive front positions often in the course of a single game. Karl was selected as the AFC Linebacker of the Year, AFC Player of the Year, and since retiring from the NFL has been enshrined in the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame and the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame. Mecklenburg was a Pro Football Hall of Fame Semifinalist for eight consecutive years.  

Mecklenburg is the only NFL legend to have earned the Certified Speaking Professional designation from the National Speakers Association. As an author and speaker Mecklenburg’s stories of teamwork and leadership are humorous and inspiring. He approaches his speaking career with the same intelligence, passion, and intensity that punctuated his great football career.

Virginia “Ginny” Clarke joined Google in 2016 as Director, Leadership Staffing, based in Mountain View, CA. In this role, she leads the Diversity, Internal Mobility, and the Non-tech Recruiting teams. Her team of North American recruiters finds and hires senior leaders (Directors +) for finance, sales, marketing, and other G&A functions across Google. 

Before Google, Ginny was a Partner at Spencer Stuart, the global executive search firm, based in Chicago. For 12 years, she worked in the firm’s Financial Services and Financial Officer Practices, and co-founded and led Spencer Stuart’s Global Diversity Practice. She left Spencer Stuart to write a book called “Career Mapping: Charting Your Course in the New World of Work,” which was published in 2011. The book provides a framework that empowers individuals to plot and assess their professional competencies and strategically navigate their careers.

After the book was published, Ginny ran her executive search and talent management firm for three years before becoming a Senior Partner for Executive Search in the U.S. at Knightsbridge, a Canadian human capital solutions firm. 

Ginny started her career in banking at First National Bank of Chicago (now Chase). After a short stint, she spent several years in the real estate investment management business with Jones Lang LaSalle (“JLL”) and Prudential Real Estate Investors. Her responsibilities included asset management, portfolio management, capital raising, and client servicing.  

She earned her BA in French and Linguistics from the University of California at Davis and her MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School. Ginny is the single mother of an adult son, Julian, who works in the entertainment industry.

For 13 years, JJ hosted Your Business for NBC News, which focused on telling the stories of entrepreneurs and CEOs to find out what works and what doesn't when you're trying to grow a successful business. She is the author of two books -- It's Your Business, and the children's book The Startup Club.  

JJ has been honored for her work by organizations, including the American Women's Business Association, Self Magazine, and the Association of Women Entrepreneurs and often speaks for organizations ranging from the Vanity Fair Founders Fair to the US Chamber of Commerce.
