The Final Book by Uncle Chuckie - The Godfather of Psionics

We inhabit an age that is utterly, indisputably owned and managed. At every turn of the game, we are expected to render formal homage to the almighty state. Our modern masters would have us bow in unctuous fealty to every whimsical decree of the technocrats, who eagerly construct a cozy walled garden of artificial intelligence, surveillance, and digital papers-please. Yet, it was well understood by Uncle Chuckie’s enthusiastic following that psionics exists precisely to shatter such monopolies and elevate the individual. Aside from his dark humor and devilish wit, Charles Cosimano fundamentally believed in freedom. This final book, however, differs greatly from much of his older writing in several ways, which I will describe at length.

First, this is a book of fiction. After reading it, some might very justifiably state that it is a work of truth wearing a theatrical mask. For, know this: I had the privilege of knowing Charles personally for over thirty years. In our final conversation about this particular volume, Charles confided in me that some elements of the book are true. But certainly not all of it. There is a grand stretch of humor here—perhaps even a measure of testing the reader’s tolerance—to see just how far over the top you are willing to entertain in your own mind.

Charles certainly cultivated a formidable villainous aesthetic, but in private, he readily admitted he was only joking about eating children for breakfast. There’s a notorious tale in his older, more “sinister” publications about psychic vampires, but as Charles once clarified to me, “When I say that, I’m only joking. In truth, you use the vampire machine to draw energy off the core of the earth.” Without a PR flack on board, it was remarkably easy for the uninitiated to misunderstand what Charles was truly trying to impart to his fans—and to the wider world beyond his eccentric orbit. But there was another side to Charles entirely.

He was, by his own admission, a card-carrying contradictionist, wearing the title in typical Uncle Chuckie fashion without a shred of apology. What the individual wanted, desired, and thought for himself was infinitely more important to Charles than whatever delicate consensus was being muttered by the greater social body and the new world collective. We once spent a quiet afternoon in his living room reminiscing about past experiences. I remember Chuck interrupting my story with a jolly chuckle, declaring, “I feel like we’re two Gods sitting upon Mount Olympus talking about the rest of the world as if it were our sandbox.” It was as if the world was so delightfully malleable that it struck him as a private joke; at the same time, he was thoroughly relishing the irony that he was spending the afternoon with his very first student, who decades prior had been nothing more than a teenage would-be psionics operator.

Charles was fiercely protective of his branding as a dark sorcerer of sorts. One afternoon, he severely chided me for writing something far too complimentary about his personal disposition. In that sitting, he famously warned me, “You are not marketing a nice guy! You need to decide what kind of person you are going to be.”

I must also confess that Charles was experiencing a decline in mental clarity during our final meetings—something I could readily perceive, and a factor that likely resulted in the long, arduous hours I spent heavily editing his work. To be entirely candid, the final chapters were compiled in haste, driven by the sobering reality that Charles knew his time was running out. As he bluntly told me, “I’m an old man. I am going to die. You will one day take over the work.” Charles always referred to his craft simply as “the work.” He never said “my work.” It was always the work. In that light, I truly feel Charles was on a sacred mission to complete his crusade of empowering the individual before his curtain fell.

One of the great imperatives of empowering the individual is the willingness to cross those forbidden boundaries that society and its timid institutions place upon the public. To truly grasp individuality, one must dare to look into the darkness and decide for oneself what manner of person to become. In this final volume, you are granted that very opportunity—plus a few techniques you might not have learned from him in private, cleverly concealed beneath the camouflage of “fiction.”

A quick footnote: Charles confided in me that the characters in this book are composite sketches—amalgams of multiple individuals he once knew, neatly disguised under a single name. For instance, the character “Kerri” is actually a mosaic of several real people blended with entirely fictitious traits of his own invention.

I never judged Charles for his unorthodox views; I merely sought to understand him as a singular human being. After editing and producing his final book—his magnum opus—I am not entirely sure that I completely understand Chuck. But I do know this much: there has never been another individual quite like him, and I gravely doubt we shall see another such legend emerge from the masses as we stumble further into this Brave New World. I sincerely hope you cherish this final dispatch from a true master of his trade.
