  • Keeper of the Games - Episode 37 - October 1, 2020
Let's dive right in on this first day of October with a brand new episode of Keeper of the Games! We're the Wildly Underqualified, Yet Mildly Entertaining Sports Podcast for Wichita & Beyond! Here we go!
(03:24): Despite being 3 point underdogs (insane), the Kansas City Chiefs showed they were the dominant team in Monday Night Football beating the Baltimore Ravens 34-20 on Monday night. Weston and Tommy break down the game, discuss if the Ravens should be considered a rival of the Chiefs and if Lamar Jackson is anywhere close to the level of Patrick Mahomes. The guys also give some credit to the KC linebackers, the playcalling of Andy Reid and Eric Bienenemy and look ahead to the Week 4 matchup on Sunday when Cam Newton and the Patriots come to Arrowhead.
(38:47): What a game for the Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday, shocking the college football world by stunning the #3 Oklahoma Sooners with a come from behind 38-35 win in Norman. What does this mean for the Wildcats moving forward...should K-State be respected more on a national level now? The guys discuss.
(47:33): Not nearly as positive of a result from the Kansas Jayhawks as they were blown out by the Baylor Bears in Waco by a score of 47-14. Outside of two Pooka Williams scores, the rest of the game was a trainwreck for KU. Weston and Tommy discuss the strategy (or lack thereof) of having Jalon Daniels play QB and what might happen moving forward at QB for KU. Also, they wonder if all hope is lost this season for the Jayhawks.
(56:55) Last week, Alex Gordon announced his retirement from the Royals and baseball. Where does he rank in all time Royals? Weston and Tommy debate.
(1:00:10): Our #WichitaWhiparound focuses on prep football around the Wichita metro. Derby High School dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak where all football related activities are shut down for now. The guys also look at big games in the City League and around the Wichita metro area and look ahead to the big Week 5 matchups.
(1:10:24): Our #FinallyFunny congratulates Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Matthews on announcing their pregnancy. Patrick already has listed which teammates would make good babysitters and which ones wouldn't. Sorry Travis Kelce, you didn't make the cut.

The last time that Keeper of the Games had two episodes in one week was all the way back in March, before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Because of everything that has happened in the world of football, between the Kasnas City Chiefs impressive week 1 win vs. the Texans, the debacle on the gridiron with the Kansas Jayhawks embarrassing loss vs. Coastal Carolina, and the rough game for the Kansas State Wildcats vs. Arkansas State, Weston Mills and Tommy Castor had a lot to get off their chests.

(04:26): The guys break down the abysmal play of KU on Saturday night. They talk about the culture, the game itself and debate if this is one of the lowest moments for KU football and where do the Jayhawks go from there? The voice of the Newman University Jets (and diehard Jayhawks fan) Blake Cripps also joins the program to give his thoughts in an impassioned commentary.
(43:14): Kansas State lost a close game to Arkansas State on Saturday at home. What does this loss mean for the Wildcats? Weston and Tommy break down the positives and negatives from this KSU squad.
(54:00): Gotta end the show on a high note so the guys recap the 34-20 win for the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night vs. the Houston Texans. A lot of good things for the Chiefs, including the two rookies, Clyde Edwards Helaire and La'Jarius Sneed.
