Keeping It Israel

If someone asked you, "What was Jesus' favourite book?" How would you respond? In this episode of Keeping It Israel Jeff talks to Gidon Ariel, an Israeli Orthodox Jew and founder of Root Source about the Bible Jesus loved and often quoted. What books were contained in the "Cannon" at the time of Jesus? How was scripture studied and read? What book of the Hebrew Bible did Jesus seem to love and quote most? Get to know Jesus a bit better by learning more about his favourite "book" from a 1st Century, Jewish perspective.

A surprisingly hilarious discussion about the recent discovery of a mansion that overlooked the Temple Mount in Jerusalem 2700 years ago;  with owners so rich, they were able to afford their own toilet. What Ya’akov really discovered is another fragment of the magnificent city Jerusalem once was… as far back as the 9th century BCE. The beautiful Proto-Aeolic capitals he found pre-date any similar capitals found in Greece. And through the ancient window frame Ya'akov discovered, we can reimagine the grand view the royal inhabitants of the mansion enjoyed.  Archaeology continues to uncover a 1st Temple Period Jerusalem as glorious as the Bible describes.

In this episode of Keeping it Israel, Jeff Futers talks to Samuel Wearp about the antisemitic history of Christianity, which contributed to the Holocaust; and the Church’s silence as over 6 million Jews were systematically murdered in modern Europe. They talk about the recent rise of antisemitism and the spiritual battle that rages today as the media and other anti-Israel groups (such as the BDS movement) try to turn the world against Israel. “Blessed Buy Israel,” founded by Samuel and his family, aims to combat antisemitism and efforts to delegitimize and destroy Israel by using BDS as an abbreviation for Blessing, Defending and Standing with the Jewish people and Israel – and especially those Jewish communities ("settlers") who are returning to Judea and Samaria ("The West Bank") in direct fulfillment of biblical prophecy. Samuel explains that terrible things happened to the Jewish people because Christians remained silent when they needed to speak out and act. Blessed Buy Israel helps the world get to know and support the smiling faces of the Jewish people living in the Bible-Heartland of Israel; Jewish people who are fulfilling prophecy with every breath they take there.

In this heart-felt episode of "Keeping it Israel" Jeff Futers, Executive Director of First Century Foundations interviews Donna Holbrook, the National Director of The International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem (ICEJ) Canada. Donna talks about how a tragedy in her life led to a deep compassion and love for Israel and the Jewish people. The 2 fellow-Canadians connect over their shared passion for Israel and how critical it is for Christians – and especially future Church leaders – to go to, and be educated about Israel. Donna explains how going to Israel -  over 50 times now - has changed the way she reads and understands the Bible. And she asks a very good question: “How is it that a person can go through Bible college; study the Bible… preach from the Bible and never be in the land of the Bible?”
