In this episode of "Keeping it Israel" Jeff talks to Prof. Yosef Garfinkel, Head of the Institute of Archaeology at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem about what he's discovered in the 5 years he's been excavating at Khirbet al-Ra'i. According to Yossi, the site is ancient, Ziklag, found exactly as described in the Bible. The finds there are consistent with the Bible story about King David and his complicated interactions with the Philistines. From 2007-2013, Yossi excavated Khirbet Qeiyafa and discovered a fortress dating to the time of King David (1000 BCE), overlooking the valley where the bible says David slew the Giant Philistine, Goliath. There, among other incredible finds, he unearthed an inscription that is possibly the earliest Hebrew inscription known. According to Yossi, the Bible story about King David and the Philistine giant Goliath is not as far-fetched as some might think.

In this episode of Keeping it Israel, Jeff interviews Pastor Avi Mizrachi who updates us from his home in Tel Aviv on Israel's current defensive war with Gaza. He talks about his frequent trips to his bomb shelter as Israel is bombarded with almost 4000 rockets, aimed at civilians. How did this conflict begin? What are the motives behind those who caused the conflict? Who are the victims? How would Israel be doing without the Iron Dome defence system? Is God protecting Israel? These are just a few of the controversial questions Avi addresses, informing us with what the mainstream media is not saying.

In this episode of Keeping it Israel, Pastor Peter Tsukahira breaks down Replacement Theology for us. How did Christianity transition from being a purely Jewish movement to a movement that propagated this harmful, anti-Semitic theology? Learn how Israel’s rebirth in 1948 was a fulfillment of biblical prophecy and a wakeup call to Christians that God is still faithful to Israel: Christians need to reconnect to their Jewish roots, pray for and support Israel so God can heal the wounds inflicted by Replacement Theology.

Until the Pandemic put the brakes on, Canadian Filmmaker, Chris Atkins had been going to Israel multiple times a year since 2005. “I know Jerusalem better than Toronto,” Chris tells Jeff. In this episode of “Keeping it Israel” we learn about Israel from the unique lens of the filmmaker who has experienced and observed it from the sky, up-close-and-personal, and literally (or archaeologically) inside-out. Having sampled food all over the country, multiple times, Chris insists that Israeli food is unbeatable in flavour and variety; he talks about how as a creator of media he is infuriated by how Israel is constantly misrepresented in  mainstream media; but what has impacted Chris most about his constant contact with Israel are the ‘Indiana Jones’ style adventures he has experienced there – crawling through ancient tombs and tunnels, and exploring the Israel Antiques Authority Warehouse – experiences which have confirmed for him, that the Bible is not just a “book of fables.” In fact, from his perspective, “If you don’t appreciate Jewish culture, you don’t fully appreciate the Bible or Jesus himself.”

In this episode of "Keeping it Israel" Pastor Jim Woodard takes us back in time - well before the Dead Sea Scrolls - to a time when the Hebrew language was pictorial. He talks about how each, ancient – or ‘Paleo’ – Hebrew letter was a picture that reflected ancient Israelite culture and how a better understanding of the Bible’s original language, helps us perceive it ‘3-dimensionally.’

In this episode of Keeping it Israel, Jeff interviews Israeli tour guide, Isaac Karasenti who updates us with how COVID has impacted and continues to impact tourism in Israel. As a result of the pandemic, Isaac has been out of work for a while, yet he talks about how archaeology in Israel has flourished, resulting in many exciting new discoveries that bring the Bible to life: In Caesarea Philippi, a Byzantine Church has been unearthed… a staircase, frescos and an exciting inscription have been discovered at Herodium… and in Gath, home of the Philistine Giant Goliath, excavations have revealed even more of the powerful city… and Ziklag – the ancient city mentioned in the Bible – has now been discovered! Isaac talks about the weekly, solitary tours he takes around his ancestral homeland; he is shocked by the closed and empty holy places in Israel – sites that are normally flooded with tourists. But there is hope: Israel is slowly opening up its borders to travellers and there is no doubt that we will all soon be able to visit the Land of the Bible once again!
