Did you know that only 34% of women and 46% of men negotiate their salaries? This despite the fact that 70% of hiring managers expect to negotiate and are prepared to pay MORE on the first offer?? Do those numbers surprise you? Bit crazy, right? If you think so too, keep reading!
So it’s that special time of year, no not Christmas, BONUS SEASON…….the time when companies start to pay out bonuses, which is great isn’t it? I remember those days when I wasn’t working for myself, and I would eagerly await news of the company performance so I could see what I was going to get in my March payslip.
And for many of those same people, the other predictable event this time of year is the decision to leave unhappy jobs for greener pastures.
First things first, I want to say if that's you, then well-done for making the hard decision to move and make this change. Sometimes the harder issue isn’t haggling the new deal, it’s actually reaching, and executing on, the decision to leave a company.
In this episode, I provide three micro-lessons on how to negotiate your pay packet. The first shares my top 5 rules for negotiating a new job offer. The second covers the steps to negotiate an increase on an existing role. And the third clarifies when/how to negotiate in email.
