Today’s Core Value is: Responsibility. What are you responsible for? If
responsibility is one of your core values, what does that mean?

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It’s not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make. Period.

Want more responsibility in your job? Take it. Want more responsibility for your growth? Take it. Responsibility is one of the easiest things to do, all you have to do is seek it and reach out for it. Its yours for the asking! Take responsibility today!

Today’s Core Value is: Popularity. I didn’t really seek popularity, but when I was a radio personality in a small town, I found a bit of popularity with that. The local newspaper editor once called me “infamous”. I found that to be amusing.

I want to inspire people. I want someone to look at me and say, “because of you, I didn’t give up.” I found this quote not too long ago, and attached it to myself. I’ve always wanted to help and inspire others. Does that mean I sought
popularity?

Don’t be too hard on yourself. There are plenty of people willing to do that for you. Love yourself and be proud of everything that you do. Even mistakes mean you’re trying.

Today’s Core Value is: Safety. What does safety mean to you? Is it shelter from harm? Having a financial safety net? Is it feeling safe in your relationships? Sometimes we feel unsafe when we are alone, or when crisis occurs.

You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have. Safety means different things to different people, but we all seek safety in some way. How do you help others to feel safe? Is it in the work you do? Are your family members, relationships, and customers safe with you?

Do you feel safe today? Don’t confuse your path with your destination, just because its stormy now, doesn’t mean you aren’t headed for sunshine.

Today’s Core Value is: Nature. We were born to love nature. There is a purpose and reason why a trip to the mountains or the ocean is therapeutic. Plan a hike in fresh mountain air or a trip to the beach just to watch the waves ebb and flow. Now is the time, not “someday”. It is so therapeutic.

Time is like a river. You cannot touch the same water twice, because the flow that has passed will never pass again. Enjoy every moment of life, and appreciate the nature that is around you.

Sometimes you find yourself in the middle of nowhere…but sometimes in the middle of nowhere, you find yourself.

Today’s Core Value is: Spirituality. Whenever I do workshops, spirituality is the top answered of all the core values. It’s one of my top values too! What does spirituality mean to you? No doubt, you can find a multitude of answers. To me, it’s my relationship to God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. To others, it’s something else. Only you can define what spirituality means to you, and then – seek your answers.

Albert Einstein said, “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.

You are not alone in anything. Life will keep bringing you the same test over and over again until you pass it. I have learned that the purpose of life is to grow! Think about it. Everything must grow, or it dies. Ours is a spiritual journey.

Today’s Core Value is: Friends. One way to have a good life is to have a good friend. The way to have a good friend is to be one. Don’t bring people in your life who weigh you down. And trust your instincts… good relationships feel good. They feel right. They don’t hurt. They’re not painful. That’s not just with somebody you want to marry, but its with friends that you choose. It’s with people you surround yourself with.

If you want more friends in your life – then be the kind of friend that you would want to spend time with. Care about others as much as you care about yourself. Your list of friends will grow, as you grow. Find friends who are on a similar growth journey, and you’ll be amazed at the support you’ll find!

Today’s Core Value is: Beauty. Is beauty skin deep, or is it found deep within you? How do you define beauty? Is it the perfect body, hair, makeup and wardrobe? When you look in the mirror, do you see a beautiful soul, or are you measuring your beauty on your external attributes?

I can honestly say, that I too, can be found guilty of judging myself too harshly when it comes to my physical appearance. We all do it.

But Ralph Waldo Emerson says, “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” He was talking about our future and our past, and what we’re made of. If you look for it, you will find beauty all around you, and IN you as well!

Today’s Core Value is: Power – Glinda the good witch told Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, that she had the power all along to find her way. Do you believe in yourself? In your own power?

How do you measure your own power? Is it power to direct your own life? Your own decisions? Albert Einstein said, “Never give up on what you really want to do. The person with big dreams is more powerful than one with all the facts.”

If you realize how powerful your thoughts are, you would never think a negative thought again. Thoughts are things. Remember that as you go about your day!

Welcome to Kelly’s Apple A Day – Sixty seconds on wisdom, success and personal growth. This month, we’re seeking growth by understanding core values.

Today’s Core Value is: Achievement. Maya Angelou said, “All great
achievements require time.” What are some of your achievements? When I ponder this question about my value in my own achievements, not too many of them are found in financial rewards. I feel my Master’s Degree in Psychology was a personal achievement, and one that I am extremely happy with. And yes, it took a lot of time. Writing my book Heart Lessons is another one of my achievements that I value. But, my greatest achievement is my children. I raised them with love, respect and a commitment to their wellbeing
and happiness. Jim Rohn said, “The greatest gift you can give to somebody is your own personal development. I used to say, ‘if you will take care of me, I will take care of you.’ Now I say, ‘I will take care of me for you, if you will take care of you for me.’” Achieve something great! And know it’ll take time.
