This is Kelly Orchard’s Apple A Day. Sixty seconds on Wisdom, Success and Personal Growth. We’re focusing on growth with 30 Days of New Habits.
When you make a habit of putting yourself in somebody else’s shoes, you are practicing empathy. Empathy is not sympathy.
Placing yourself in somebody else’s shoes doesn’t show that you are weak, on the contrary, it takes a very brave and wise person to seek to understand others, especially when they are in conflict. Alfred Adler said, empathy means: "seeing with the eyes of another, listening with the ears of another, and feeling with the heart of another."
Make a habit to show empathy for others, it’ll create a chain reaction of peace, understanding and wisdom that only one with an empathetic heart can acquire.
And according to the Dalai Lama about compassion: “Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.”
This has been Kelly Orchard’s Apple A Day.
