  • Fear Not Friday: Five Promises from Isaiah 41:10

Fear does not wait for a convenient time. It shows up in your commute, in your budget, in the quiet after an argument, and at 3 AM when your mind suddenly feels wide awake. We come back to a single Bible verse that speaks straight into that moment: Isaiah 41:10, one of the clearest “fear not” passages in Scripture, and we read it both in short form and in full.

Then we slow down and unpack the five promises inside the verse: God is with you, God is your God, God will strengthen you, God will help you, and God will uphold you with his righteous right hand. We talk about what those words look like on real-life fears like job stress, marriage pressure, kids at school, and bills that will not stop coming. This is Christian encouragement that stays practical, not vague.

We also share a simple Friday habit for dealing with anxiety: write down your fears, pray over them, do what you can do in faith, and then stop carrying what you were never meant to control. If you’ve been craving a short devotional that builds trust in God and gives you language for prayer, this conversation will meet you right where you are.

    • Reading Isaiah 41:10 and breaking down its five parts
    • Naming specific fears about work, marriage, kids, school, and money
    • Giving fears to God after doing all we can do
    • Trusting God’s presence instead of feeling alone at 3 AM
    • Remembering God is our only God and letting that reorder priorities
    • Leaning on God’s strength, help, and righteous right hand

I would recommend every Friday you just go and list your fears.

Subscribe for more weekly encouragement, share this with someone who needs steady hope, and leave a review with the promise from Isaiah 41:10 that you’re holding onto today.

  • Fear Not Friday Psalm 56:11 - In God We Still Trust

Fear does not wait for the perfect moment, it shows up when the pressure is highest and the outcomes feel uncertain. That’s why we keep coming back to one clear line from Psalm 56:10: “In God I trust, I will not be afraid.”

We say it, we sit with it, and we treat it like a decision we can make even when our emotions lag behind. If you’re looking for Christian encouragement, faith over fear, and a practical way to reset your mindset, this short message is built for the end of a hard week.

We walk through David’s life before he becomes king, when courage costs something. He faces Goliath without armor that fits, wins anyway, and then discovers that victory does not always make life easier. Saul’s jealousy turns deadly, and the danger intensifies until David is captured by the enemy. That is where the verse lands with force: trust in God is not denial of reality, it’s choosing where to place your weight when reality feels heavy.

From there, we trace the surprising historical thread of “In God We Trust” from David’s confession to Abraham Lincoln’s Civil War era vision, and then to Dwight Eisenhower’s push to make it the official national motto and place it on all U.S. currency.

The bigger takeaway is not about slogans, it’s about stability: what happens to a person, and a people, when trust in God becomes more than words. If this encouraged you, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs courage, and leave a review. What part of the message hit you most?

  • A Verse-All Have Sinned: Amazing Grace and John Newton Story (Romans 3:23)

Sin has a sneaky way of turning into a comparison game: I have flaws, but not like them. We push back on that instinct with one blunt, leveling line from Scripture: Romans 3:23. The key word is all. Not “the worst people,” not “the ones who got caught,” not “the ones we disagree with.” All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and that truth doesn’t crush us, it clears the fog so grace can finally make sense.

From there, Ken Mercer walks through the astonishing story of John Newton. His past isn’t cleaned up for comfort: profanity, gambling, drunkenness, the brutality of the Atlantic slave trade, even captaining slave ships. Then something changes. Newton’s own testimony points to conversion, and his life takes a turn that challenges easy cynicism. He studies for ministry as an evangelical Anglican priest and later teams up with William Wilberforce in the British Parliament to confront slavery as sin and work toward abolition.

The thread tying it all together is grace that doesn’t excuse evil, but does transform people who admit the truth.  Mercer ends where Newton’s story famously leads: “Amazing Grace,” the hymn that carries his confession and hope into worship, reminding us that no one is beyond reach and no one gets to look down on anyone else. If this helped you rethink “all have sinned” and what grace means for your life, subscribe, share the episode, and leave a review so more people can find it.

Ken Mercer challenges the habit of ranking sins and go straight to Romans 3:23, where “all have sinned” leaves no room for spiritual scorekeeping. He tell John Newton’s story to show how grace can transform even a life tied to the Atlantic slave trade and turn it toward repentance, abolition, and worship.

  • Wednesday Worship: I Declare Your Majesty - Artemis II Proclaims God's Majesty

Something happens to people when they see the world from far beyond it and the Artemis II story makes that impossible to ignore.

Ken Mercer is taking a Wednesday Worship moment and tying it to a historic NASA lunar mission, where four astronauts Reed Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen return with words that sound a lot like worship: declare, proclaim, exclaim.

Ken walks through two testimonies that start in different places but land in the same awe.

    • Victor Glover speaks openly as a committed Christian, studying God’s creation from orbit and even bringing his own personal Holy Bible on the journey.
    • Reed Wiseman says he’s not a religious person, yet he describes moments so big they strain human understanding including the crew naming a newly discovered lunar crater after his late wife, and the tenderness of that act of love.

Then comes the scene that stays with you: after splashdown, Wiseman asks to see the Navy ship’s chaplain, sees the cross on his collar, and breaks down in tears. It’s a vivid reminder that space and spirituality often meet at the edge of language, where wonder, grief, gratitude, and humility all collide.

Ken Mercer closes by singing “I Declare Your Majesty” (Malcolm Duplessis) as a clear response to what the astronauts saw and what so many of us feel when life gets bigger than our explanations.

And I invite you to go online and pull down the version from the Marinatha singers, You Will Be Blessed.

  • USA 250th: "Democracy" in Our Constitution?

Ken Mercer starts with a question straight out of a US history and civics exam:

"How many times does the word democracy appear in the Constitution?"

The answer is zero, and once you see it, you can’t unsee it. We trace that same zero through the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence, and the Pledge of Allegiance, then ask the obvious follow-up: if the founders didn’t label it a democracy, what did they build?

We unpack what a republic means in practice: representative government grounded in a written Constitution. From Article IV, Section 4 and its guarantee of a republican form of government, we move into the reason the founders designed a system with friction on purpose.

Checks and balances, three branches, and a two-house Congress are not accidents or trivia. They are guardrails meant to limit concentrated power, protect minority rights, and create a system the country can keep improving rather than a pure democracy that can collapse under swings of passion or pressure.

We also connect the founding blueprint to today’s political arguments, including debates over the Presidency, the Supreme Court, the Senate, and the Electoral College. Whether you love these institutions or want major reforms, you’ll get more persuasive overnight by understanding what problems they were meant to solve, especially for smaller states.

If this helped you see the Constitution with fresh eyes, subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review with your take: republic, democracy, or both?

We ask a deceptively simple civics question and follow it all the way into the design of American government. We explain why the founders describe a republic, not a pure democracy, and how that choice shapes checks and balances, Congress, and the Electoral College.

    • the word democracy appearing zero times in the Constitution and other founding texts
    • the meaning of a republic as representative government
    • Article IV, Section 4 and the guarantee of a republican form of government
    • why the founders distrust pure democracies that fail
    • checks and balances across three branches
    • the House, the Senate, and why small states still matter
    • the purpose of the Electoral College in presidential elections
    • Benjamin Franklin’s warning about keeping a republic

I invite you to go to my session called the Great Compromise and see what happened there.
I look forward to your questions and your comments.

  • Wednesday Worship: Let Go, Let God: Just Lift Up Your Hands!

Your arms can tell the truth your mouth can’t find. Ken Mercer starts with a story from his military childhood, where constant moving made church feel like the one steady landmark, thanks in large part to chaplains who helped families stay connected to faith and community. That background sets up a moment many of us recognize: coming back to God.

Then Ken takes you to a packed Christian concert in San Antonio. The room is full, the music is loud, and nearly everyone raises their hands, except the man telling the story. That awkward, honest detail opens the door to a bigger question: what does lifting your hands actually mean?

We talk about how a simple posture can become a powerful symbol of surrender to God, and why surrender isn’t weakness. It’s a choice to stop gripping your fears, burdens, and need for control quite so tightly.

If you’re tired, worn down, anxious, or carrying problems that feel too big, this conversation offers a grounded kind of Christian encouragement. We lean into the repeated affirmations that God is in control, that no “mountain” is too high, and that hope can be practiced one decision at a time. When words feel stuck, worship can still be real, and surrender can still be practical.

Subscribe for more, share this with someone who needs a reset, and leave a review telling us what “letting go” looks like in your life.

    • Growing up with military chaplains and finding church in every new place
    • Returning to faith through a Christian concert and feeling out of step in worship
    • Learning that raised hands signal surrender and trust, not a show
    • Choosing to let go even when we feel exhausted, weak, and afraid
    • Repeating faith declarations that God is in control and nothing is too big for him

    Just lift up those hands!

  • USA 250th: Who was our First President and Vice President

The first President and Vice President of the United States is a memorization question, but the real story behind it is a crash course in how America started governing itself. We walk through the correct answer, George Washington and John Adams, and then pull back the curtain on the earliest version of the Electoral College, when the rules were new, state participation was uneven, and the election process looked more like a handwritten selection than the modern campaign machine.

We talk about why the first presidential election didn’t include every state even though there were 13 in the Union
. North Carolina and Rhode Island had not ratified the US Constitution yet, so they could not participate. New York’s legislature couldn’t agree on a slate of electors, so it didn’t cast votes at all. That single detail turns a simple civics fact into a real lesson about ratification, state politics, and how fragile new systems can be.

Then we dig into a surprising mechanic: electors were asked to write down two names of two men they would accept as president, and the runner-up became vice president. With 69 total electoral votes among the 10 participating states, Washington is unanimous, and Adams comes in second.

If you’re studying for the US citizenship test, brushing up on American history, or trying to understand the Electoral College beyond the headlines, this is a clean, memorable example to anchor the basics. Subscribe for more bite-sized civics questions, share this with a friend studying for naturalization, and leave a review with the next question you want us to tackle.

  • CCNews: A Federal Death Penalty For Child Traffickers

Some questions are so heavy they change the way you hear the next Amber Alert. I’m Ken Mercer, and I’m asking for your honest feedback on a proposal meant to send an unmistakable message to child sex traffickers: should the United States establish a federal "Death Penalty" for Child Traffickers?

I walk through why this issue feels urgent, from the steady drumbeat of missing-child stories to claims about large numbers of unaccounted-for minors and the challenges of tracking cases across jurisdictions. I also talk about how trafficking networks treat children as profit, operating like organized crime that adapts fast and preys on everyday moments when a family least expects danger.

To ground it in reality, I share a story of parents who lose their daughter at a public event and later find her being sold in another state, a reminder that recovery does not end when a child is located.

From there, I argue for what I call a “fog” a "Fear of God" - fear-driven deterrent meant to make traffickers think twice, and I invite you to weigh the moral, legal, and practical consequences of using capital punishment as a national policy tool.

Listen, then tell me where you stand: would a federal death penalty deter child trafficking or create new risks? Subscribe for more, share this with someone who cares about protecting kids, and leave a review so more people join the conversation.

    • Asking if child sex trafficking should carry a federal death penalty
    • Reacting to reports of thousands of missing children and large numbers of unaccounted-for minors
    • Describing trafficking as organized crime and a global revenue stream
    • Telling the story of parents who locate their missing daughter online in another state
    • Arguing that a national penalty could create a deterrent message and protect future children
    • Inviting parents and listeners to share their experiences and views

  • Fear Not Friday: Daniel 10 - The Spiritual Battle Behind Your Prayers

Silence after you pray can feel like rejection, but Daniel 10 tells a different story. We’re reading Daniel 10:10–14 and sitting with one of the Bible’s most grounding lines: “Do not be afraid, Daniel.” What follows is a window into why faithful people can pray with real urgency and still wait days or weeks for the breakthrough to show up.

We talk about Daniel’s world in sixth century BC Persia and why it matters that King Cyrus is not a follower of God, yet God still uses him to free the Jewish people from Babylonian exile and allow the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem. That historical detail becomes a personal challenge: God can move through unexpected leaders and unlikely circumstances, even when the culture around us does not look aligned with our faith.

Then we trace Daniel’s response to fear: fasting and praying from day one through day twenty-one. The angel explains that the request is heard immediately, but there is resistance from the “prince of Persia,” pointing to spiritual warfare and unseen principalities rather than a human king. We also reflect on Michael’s role as help in the fight so the message can finally be delivered. If you’re wrestling with delayed answers to prayer, discouragement, or shame, this is a direct reminder that you are not alone and that “fear not” is not empty comfort. Subscribe, share this with someone who’s waiting, and leave a review with the question you’re carrying right now.

    • Daniel’s faithfulness and the setting of sixth century BC Persia
    • King Cyrus as an unexpected tool God uses to free exiles and support rebuilding
    • Daniel’s fear and his choice to fast and pray for 21 days
    • The messenger’s assurance that Daniel’s request is heard from day one

    • The reminder that we are not alone and we should not be afraid, ashamed, or discouraged

  • 1864: Pro-Slavery Agenda - "Cheat to Defeat" the Re-Election of Abraham Lincoln

A million Union soldiers are fighting in the Civil War and, for the first time in US history, they are offered military absentee ballots. That single change raises a blunt question: when you move voting away from the ballot box and into tents, hospitals, and paperwork, who protects the soldier’s voice?

We walk through the high-stakes election of 1864, when Abraham Lincoln is trying to win re-election while promising a constitutional end to slavery through the 13th Amendment. Along the way, we look at the political pressure around the “Peace Party” narrative, George McClellan’s candidacy, and why the soldier vote is seen as a prize worth controlling. Then the story turns to Baltimore, where a military court investigates a plot tied to New York troops and allegations of “checkerboarding” ballots, forged signatures, and votes cast under names that should never have appeared, including wounded men who cannot respond and soldiers who are already dead.

We also point to the paper trail the episode cites, including the court proceedings and a New York Times headline from October 1864 describing election frauds and admitted forgery. Finally, we step back and ask what it could have meant if Lincoln had lost: not just a different election night, but a different constitutional future for the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments and the civil rights foundations that follow.
