1. What was your first experience and impression of Kettlebrook Kewaskum? Share an early memory or funny story.

2. In what ways do you believe that God is continuing to call you to be hospitable (leading others into His family by opening up your family) despite our Kwk site closing?

3. What are some of the things that have you saying “life is hard sometimes?” Read John 16:33. When we look to the Person, teachings, and victory of Jesus, how does this help in our hard times?

4. In Matthew 11, Jesus tells John the Baptist’s disciples to “go back & report” about the advancing of the Kingdom. What are some things that you can “go back & report” regarding what God has done through our Kwk family, through your small group, through your personal family, or through you, that has advanced His Kingdom?

5. Romans says to rejoice with those who rejoice, and to mourn with those who mourn. Ecclesiastes tells us there is a time for both of these emotions in our lives. Take some time to share some areas where you are looking-forward, areas where you are still processing, and areas where you are grieving. Pray together for one another.

1. Who are the most “hospitable” people you know? The least? Why did you pick them?

2. Growing up, do you remember your home being more open to others (including strangers) or closed? How has this shaped the way you see your own home/life?

3. When you hear the phrase, “A man’s home is his castle”… what comes to mind for you and why?

4. Describe a time when you felt like an outsider, a foreigner, a stranger. What was that like for you? Who do you know in your own life that might be experiencing this? How might you be able to specifically and intentionally empathize with them?

5. What are the two reasons or motivations in Leviticus 19:34 that God commands His people to be hospitable? Why are both of these motivations important?

6. In what ways does Jesus reflect the Father’s heart for hospitality in the gospel accounts?

7. In what ways could you obey God’s commands to be hospitable this week? This month? Who is someone on the outer-most circle in your life that you could begin to love like yourself?

Questions for Reflection / Discussion:

1. How would you define Hospitality? Are there any specific moments, memories, or people that you connect that word with (either positively or negatively)?

2. Xenophilia (the Greek word translated as Hospitality) means love of the stranger. How does this change or reshape your concept of Hospitality just by its definition? Are there any practices of Hospitality that you’ve picked up over the years that you need to unlearn?

3. Read Luke 14:12-14. Would you say this teaching is hard or easy, and why? What challenges or road-blocks immediately present themselves within your mind? What would be required in removing or getting past these challenges?

4. How were we once the spiritually/physically/emotionally/relationally needy in our relationship with God? What changed, and how was it made possible, that we became no-longer strangers? How does keeping this foremost in our minds change the way we view the ‘stranger’ and the ‘needy’ in our own lives?

5. Take a minute or two to pray & think about those who are the Group B people in your life, those who may have physical, spiritual, relational needs, and write them down on a piece of paper or your phone. Now, think & pray about how to bless those individuals, and then write that down next to their names along with a timeline or specific dates to do aim to do this. Last, share with the group and pray for one another, as well as these individuals.

2. Why do you think forgiveness is so hard to do? Why do you think it is so essential for us to ‘grow up?’

3. What happens when people refuse to forgive? Is there anything gained?

4. Read Matthew 18:21-35. Have someone retell the parable in their own words. What does it tell us about God? About ourselves?

5. If Matthew 18:21-35 is true, what are we supposed to do about it?

6. Is there any area of my life where I have been harmed, wounded or abused that I have not fully dealt with?

7. Have I forgiven the perpetrators of my abuse? If someone were to look at my soul today would they find fresh wounds or healed scarring?

1. What does ‘growing up’ mean to you? Why do you think so many people grow old but refuse to grow up? What prevents them from doing so?

2. When do you feel like you ‘grew up?’ In what ways do you still need to ‘grow up?’

3. Why do you think repentance is so important for growing up in the Kingdom? Is it possible to grow up in Christ without repentance?

4. Read Luke 13:1-9. What is God looking for in keeping with repentance? What does that look like?

5. Read Luke 18:9-14. Have someone retell the story in their own words. What does this story tell you about God? About people? What do you think you need to do as a result of this teaching?

6. What is one area in your life where you would like to see God’s Kingdom come? What do you think you need to do in order to see that happen?

4. Read Luke 14:7-11 a few times. What sticks out to you as you read this parable?

5. As a group, brainstorm the different ways that Jesus does not just teach on humility, but displays humility.

6. Revisit the five points in the “notes” section above. How would you assess yourself in regard to these? In what ways might the Holy Spirit be convicting you in regards to these?

7. In what specific way/relationship/or role could you seek to humble yourself this week?

8. In what specific way could you seek to exalt/magnify Jesus this week?

2. Read Mark 16:1-15. What do you think it would have been like to be in the place of the women on Saturday. How about the men?

3. What stands out to you about the angels message to the women? Why do you think they ran away afraid? Do you think you would have reacted the same or differently?

4. Why do you think the disciples “didn't get it” even though Jesus continually told them about His resurrection? What do you believe is it that finally changed them? What was it for you that finally changed (or confirmed) what you believe about Jesus?

5. Do you identify with being a skeptic, a sinner, or a scared person? Why? How does Mark’s gospel & resurrection narrative challenge your skepticism, offer grace to your identity, or change your fear into mission? Pray for one another to grow in these areas.

How was the situation entirely changed for you?

2. For context, read Romans 7:14-20. Have you ever experienced

anything like that? Can you relate to what Paul is saying in any way?

3. How would you describe 'hope?' Have you ever had to wait for

something you didn't have? What was that like?

4. Verse 25 says that we hope for what we do not yet have. What do you

suppose that is (v.23)? Do you wait/hope for that? Why or why not?

5. V.26 says that the Spirit helps us in our weakness. How does the

Spirit help you in your weakness? Is the Spirit a 'game changer' for you?

6. There are no commands in all of Romans 8. So what difference do

these verses make to you on Monday-Friday? What is our appropriate response?

1. What is the worst trade you ever made (as an adult or child)? Why is it just baffling to consider that God desires to exchange our unrighteousness for Jesus’ righteousness? How does that make you feel?

2. Why do you think it’s such a prevalent thought that the phrase “God helps those who help themselves” is biblical? What passages of scripture or thoughts come to mind when you know the opposite to be true?

3. Read Romans 8:1-5. Why are the words “God has done” so important? Looking at the words “in order that” in v4, what two points are being linked, and why is that important to our walk with Christ?

4. What have been some of your general impressions about the Holy Spirit (either growing up, or even now)? Read 8:6-11. What is the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives?

5. What area do you believe you struggle in the most: receiving the Spirit (by believing in Jesus), listening to the Spirit (amidst the noise & the voice of our sin nature), or walking in the Spirit (living in obedience)? Why do you think that is the case?

6. Take some time as a small group family to pray for the areas of struggle just mentioned.

1. Have you ever been repeatedly called the wrong name by someone, or called someone else the wrong name repeatedly? How did this get corrected? Have you ever had a nickname that reflected anything about your character or skills, etc?

2. Have you ever experienced being in debt — and how did this make you feel? If you paid off the debt, how did that feel? Why do you believe it’s important to know the full weight of the debt of our sin, and how does this help us understand God’s love for us?

3. Read Romans 8, verses 4:13-15. What do you think it looks like to be led by the Spirit? Why do you think the Holy Spirit is called The Spirit of Adoption, and what does that have to do with His character?

4. When you pray, how do you typically address God when you start (dear Lord, God, Father)? For those of you who start by calling God ‘Father’, why do you do this? For those who don't tend to (or maybe ever have) address God as ‘Father’, why not? What does calling (and recognizing) God as Father demonstrate about our identity? How can this concept change us?

5. Why do you believe suffering is part of our inheritance (and should be expected) as sons & daughters of God? What does suffering lead us to?

6. Take a moment to share if you have been feeling distant or separated from God, feeling afraid, feeling enslaved, or feeling as though you are struggling in suffering. Pray for one another to embrace our identity as sons & daughters of God.
