  • Tasché Burger gets advice from prev The Voice SA winners and her coach
On Saturday, 13 July 2019, Carl Wastie called up winner of The Voice SA season 3 – Tasché Burger for a very special moment on the Coca-Cola Top40SA.
Carl had lined up the two former winners of The Voice SA – Richard Stirton and Craig Lucas – to offer up pearls of wisdom to the Brackenfell star and pass on the baton.
He also got Tasché’s coach from The Voice SA, Francois van Coke, to offer up his words of advice to the star, now that she had won.
Tasché made history on Sunday (7 July) by becoming the first woman to win The Voice SA.
Tasché, who turned 19 recently, won season 3 of talent show after receiving the most votes from South Africans. Nearly 10 million votes were cast.
With her win, Tasché has confirmed to every other province that they should stick to their day jobs – making it 3 for 3 for the Western Cape when it comes to winning The Voice SA.

  • 'Smother (Yaadt Remix)' - DJ Cosher ft Craig Lucas
On Friday, 28 June 2019, whilst on the Flash Drive with Carl Wastie, Craig Lucas expressed his disappointment that none of his songs had been given the “yaadt” treatment – as that’s how you really know you’ve made in it Cape Town.
With a week to go until Craig would be in-studio performing his new single, ‘Anti-Sociable’ on the Coca-Cola Top40SA (this past Saturday, 6 July 2019), the chart show team enlisted the help of DJ Cosher – giving him a real challenge, as it would be his first yaadt remix, and as it was a surprise for Craig, he couldn’t get hold of the separates (vocals without the backing track, etc).
With all those factors at play, DJ Cosher did a great job – and Craig Lucas loved the new remix of his hit single, ‘Smother’

  • The Kiffness speak about the impact of ‘Nomi’
Two weeks ago, Dave Scott of The Kiffness released his most awesome music video yet – a video that showcases his lovable housekeeper, Nomi, breaking it down to his latest song, which is being used to raise funds for her and her family.
The song is called ‘Nomi’ – and for the video, Dave took a road trip with Nomi to her family home in the Eastern Cape, stopping at a number of cool locations on the way to film and let Nomi work her magic.
The new music video was released along with Nomi’s story and all proceeds from the streaming go towards Nomi.
A crowdfunding page has also been set up on Nomi’s behalf to help her get her mother settled in in Cape Town.
Within a number of days the crowdfunding target was reached and Nomi and her mother were able to get the things they needed, including a wheelchair and a gas heater for the winter.
Carl Wastie caught-up with Dave from The Kiffness, who’s single ‘Sugarman’, which features Mathew Gold is currently sitting at no.23 on the chart, this past weekend (22 June 2019) on the Coca-Cola Top40SA.

Shekhinah broke the internet on Friday (21 June 2019) when she announced the line-up for her own music festival, Rose Fest, which will be held at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Jozi in August.
As you know, August is Women’s Month in South Africa – and as such, Rose Fest is all about celebrating the strong female music icons of South African music, produced and headlined by females only.
Rose Fest also marks Shekhinah’s first tour.
Whilst she’s hinted that the next stop will be her home province of KZN, so far, no news about Cape Town.

  • Francois van Coke chats to us on the (van) Coke Top 40 SA
South African rock legend, Francois van Coke, stepped out of The Voice SA rehearsals this past Saturday (8 June 2019) to catch-up with Carl Wastie on the Coca-Cola Top40SA on Kfm 94.5.
Francois is one of the coaches on the TV reality show – but has had a lot to celebrate lately.
Last week, the music video for his single ‘Toe Vind Ek Jou’, which features long-time friend, Karen Zoid and is a former no.1 on the chart from 2015, hit 8 million views on YouTube.
If that’s not enough, just last month Francois opened his own recording studio, Van Coke Studios, where he is currently working on his upcoming solo album, which he revealed during his chat with Carl, he’s hoping to call ‘Rugby, Die Weer, En Die Openbaring’ – but also said that the album name is a working progress, as his wife, Lauren Wiid, still has to approve it.
The upcoming album is expected to go back to Francois’ roots, but is also poised to have some exciting additions, such as a collaboration from fellow coach on The Voice SA S3, South African hip hop artist, Riky Rick. This isn’t the rocker’s first brush with one of hip hop’s heavyweights. In February this year, he was part of the panel that roasted AKA for the Comedy Central special.
Francois seems to be oozing success at the moment, as amidst all his other current projects, he also has his own brand of craft beer, F*koff Lager, which he launched just last year.

  • James Deacon inspires on the #CokeTop40CT
At the tender age of 22, Jo'burg-based musician, James Deacon, possesses vocal abilities far beyond his years, with a unique timbre and unnatural pitch ability that allows him to switch between slick rap verses and honey-coated choruses – and he’s just released his debut single ‘Not Givin’ Up’.
On Saturday, 25 May 2019, Carl Wastie called James to find out more about the track and James' story - and what followed can only be described as inspiring.
After an unfortunate accident left him without any feeling in most of his right hand and unable to play guitar, Deacon’s insistence upon continuing with music, defied all odds and ended up providing the healing he so badly needed.
