When Love, Death & Robots released in 2019, it pushed the envelope in a lot of way - photoreal CGI animation, adult content, mind bending short stories.  It did a lot of things really well in its 18 episodes.  

Jump forward to the 14th May 2021, and we get another 8 genre bending, amazing, short animations that continue to push boundaries, so I showed the kids an episode from Season 1, and episode from Season 2, then phoned them and asked them for their thoughts.

If your discussing stuff that breaks boundaries, you should try to break a few of your own, so apologies for the sound quality, but it's something I can work with and now I know what were, we'll improve and hopefully speak to more people.

It has been a busy few weeks for me and the kids - Isla has her 5th year exams, Nieve is back at School and I am back in my box "working", so our chances to watch movies together are less (for now).  

With that in mind, we put EXTRA effort into our Mortal Kombat review, and it's a humdinger of an episode.  We cover a bit of the OG Mortal Kombat movie, Lego Ninjago, Frozone, Kung Lao's hat, if Mileena's spine would stay intact, banana hammocks and popping head biology!!.

It's an episode jam packed with the ramblings of an old man and some teenagers going off topic in the best way possible!!.

Scotland is out of lockdown and I am back at work.......and its DEAD!!!  What do I do to pass the time you may ask?  NO, not work, I watch movies.

It's me discussing a choice selection of movies I watched in my box last week, including:

Anti Life / Breach (2020) - Crap Bruce Willis Alien rip off.
Jiu Jitsu (2020) - Really crap Nicholas Cage Predator/Mortal Kombat hybrid rip off
The Art Of Self Defence (2019) - Jesse Eisenberg takes up Karate after being assaulted
Next Gen (2018) - animated kids version of I-Robot with voices of John Krasinski and Charlyne Yi.

I hope you enjoy this more then I enjoyed some of these movies.

He flies helicopters, he jumps out of planes, he climbs up tall buildings, he rides motorcycles really fast the wrong way around Paris and sometimes he flies on the OUTSIDE of planes.  It is, of course, Tom Cruise.

We discuss the movie that started the current story arc of the MI franchise, how real is it compared to Bond and the Fast & Furious series....then we go off topic and discuss Henry Cavil, the head of the IMF being a Dark Arts teacher and other spy movie tropes.

One of the latest, and freshest animation movies, recorded on our latest and freshest piece of pod-recording technology!!  Apologies first - we we're playing around with set up and the sound buttons, so there's quite a lot of applause, some musical interludes, etc etc.  

What can I say - kids and new tech toys (and maybe dad's and new tech toys too!!).

Basically its grumpy old man - the movie, and according to Isla its not John Wick, however we discuss its similarities with John Wick, and what sets it apart.

We also discuss Bob Odenkirk's name, what type of butter he, and Keanu, would be sculpted out of and I think the Rock gets mentioned along with shirt colours in the Fast & Furious series.  A regular episode for me and eldest TBH.

I know, it's not a Marvel a TV series, and we usually do films anyway, but hey, we can break out once in a while, especially for spoiler free reviews like this.

I basically spent the last 3 days watching this, hence the reason why our podcast is a day late, so that means its good.....or that I'm persistent!!.

No pun intended, but WOW, this film has appreciated in value so much.  It feel's more relevant now then when it was when it was released.  Even though its 16 years old it's not dated, it feels fresh, it looks good, has great acting......I honestly never thought it was that good, but then maybe it needed the recent political landscape, and the pandemic, to really strike a chord with me.

But what did the kids think of this 1984-esq tale of a totalitarian British government?.  Nieve has a great take on this which, both really surprised me and was not what I saw this film as, but that's the great thing about watching movies with kids!.

I hope you enjoy this podcast as much as we enjoyed the movie.

As part of her 2021 Alphabet Challenge, Isla picked The Empire Strikes Back, and to be honest, the original trilogy needs an extended episode to itself.  The second and third trilogy need episodes...the whole series needs an extra special episode.  It's a lot of Star Wars and a lot of episodes, but we focus on just Empire for this episode.

I also don't think we do it justice, because there is so much to talk about, but to have a talk about my favourite of the Star Wars films is just good fun, and we digress into the new trilogies, some Clone Wars, and talk about the time we met Julian Glover, so a mixed episode, but its just great to watch Star Wars with your kids some times.
