This week we’re going to talk about motivation: intrinsic and extrinsic
Intrinsic means you are internally motivated, you want to do something because you like doing it. It brings you joy and or you feel successful when you have completed it. Extrinsic means that you are externally motivated. You are doing the thing to earn a reward or avoid a punishment.
Generally speaking, when you are intrinsically motivated, you are more likely to stick to something even if it gets difficult and you are likely to enjoy it more, and we talk about strategies to try and get your kids to motivate themselves!
We also talk about modeling behavior for your kids, which includes narrating your feelings, and we discuss the importance of getting to know your friend’s teacher’s parents better (just kidding, don't feel like you need to do that.)
