Kindred Church

Paul continues to try to convince the Galatians that grace through faith I the only thing that they need to be justified to God. To further drive the point home, he returns to the example of Abraham. Tonight, we go back to Genesis 15 to explore the reference Paul makes and why it matters to us 2,000 years later.

Paul begins to shift his focus here in Galatians chapter 3. Since it's only by grace through faith in Jesus that we are saved, Paul wants to address this important question: How then does a Christian grow? Tonight we discover what it might look like to be motivated by the Spirit instead of returning to the burden of the law.

Peter and Paul find themselves in Antioch, an important city in the Galatian region, where they encounter the messy part of belief systems merging and growing. When Peter allows fear to drive him away from the Good News of his faith, what can we learn from the manner in which Paul corrects him?

Paul is alarmed and concerned about what’s going on in Galatia as the truth of the gospel was being twisted by a group of teachers that had infiltrated these Jersusalem churches. Chapter two of the book of Galatians begins with a meeting between Paul, these teachers, and the leaders of the Jerusalem church. In this passage, we discover why Paul fought so fiercely to protect the freedom we have in Christ and we explore exactly what this freedom means for our faith and our churches.

We begin our study of Galatians by taking a look at why Paul wrote this letter, who he wrote it to, and why. In an environment of contention, with ideas as great commerce, Paul enters into a debate between several groups: what is salvation – how do humans attain it, and why does it sometimes seem like nothing has changed in the world? Paul writes with authority and sternness, but also with joy and hope as he helps us understand true freedom and grace through faith.

This recording also includes an original song "The Battle is Won" and a guided time of prayer in response to the devastating Boulder County Wildfires in our area.

Tonight we celebrate that Jesus became human. In doing so he became vulnerable to the darkness of this world, too. Jesus enters the world able to be wounded, subject to even death. He put himself in the thick of lives that are difficult and painful, and often, inexplicable. Out of that darkness, comes what we are told is the “true light that gives light to everyone.”

In this study of Advent, the season of waiting on the birth of the Savior Jesus, we have looked at how God is working while we wait even when it seems like He isn’t & we have explored how this waiting has a purpose, that God is working all things together for the good of those that love him in its midst. Tonight, we will talk about how we don’t wait alone. Emmanuel, God With Us, is at our side helping us navigate the moments in life that we are waiting on and the seasons we are praying through. What are you waiting for? How can you see Jesus there with you this Christmas?

Waiting can often feel like wasted time. The longer we wait, the more we wonder if that opportunity, the shot at a relationship, or what was meant for us passed us by, leaving us feeling panicky, resigned, or discouraged. Tonight, we explore the Christmas story as told in the gospel of Luke, and what it has to teach us about our waiting never being wasted.

Tonight, we begin a small study of the season of Advent. Advent comes from a Latin word meaning “coming” or “arrival”. It’s signified by waiting, as the world waited for the arrival of Jesus who would rescue us. We’ll be taking a look at the Christmas story from four different vantage points as it appears in the four gospels written by Matthew, Mark, Luke & John. Each vantage point has something unique to teach us about waiting and about hope.
