In this conversation, we explore the topic of emotions. Drexel and I are completely opposite when it comes to processing and communicating emotions. This episode is full of laughter and real life! We have learned a lot about this topic over 15 years of marriage, mainly from trial and error as we have sought to understand and love one another. We share our journey in how we process emotions differently and the work God has done in both of us. We briefly discuss why we're exploring this topic more deeply. As our children get older, we want to make sure we are modeling emotional maturity and giving them helpful tools to express themselves. There is much more to be said and we'll be coming back to this topic, so let us know what questions or comments you have.

In this episode, Drexel and Charles continue to unpack the concept of biblical community. Make sure to listen to the previous episode for the context of where this conversation started. Charles presents the idea of a team and we love how he breaks downs the crucial elements of relationships. Drexel and Charles process the purpose of gathering. Why is it that with so many churches and so many Christians are we not solving some of the city's problems? Do we have the right to choose the people we want to be around? Who sets our community and what changes must we make? Lot's more to be said, but it's a great conversation.

In this episode, Drexel invites a dear friend onto the show to discuss the current way our culture does church. Charles Halley is local to Waco, has lead formal ministry and understands the life of a missionary. He shares some of his story about overseas missions and where he is currently serving in the city. This is the first of two conversations regarding church and community. Drexel and Charles wrestle with the way our culture does church and begins the conversation on the significant impacts it has to our families, life and community.

In this episode, we continue the conversation on friendship in biblical community. How do you keep showing up for one another when it's not easy being vulnerable? We discuss the commands of Scripture to restore one another in gentleness and love. What is the concept of carrying one another's burdens and who is supposed to do this? We share some of our own friendship struggles, personality differences, and desires in relationships. Accountability, sacrifice and love are essential to community rooted in the freedom of Christ.

In this conversation, we wrestle with the topic of friendship and what we would define as biblical friendships. We know the struggle of finding deep, life-giving friendships. What should a biblical friendship look like and how does it differ from other people we frequently cross paths with? This is the hill Drexel will die on and he mentions 3 C's - Commitment, Continuity & Compassion. In a culture where we prioritize sports, entertainment and other things - are we willing to prioritize friendships? We talk about the concept of a radical and transformational community. Friendships take hard work, authenticity and a lot of grace, but Christ calls us to this standard of love.

In this episode, we try to unpack a FAQ about discipline. How do you discipline your kids? Drexel brings comedy, truth bombs and realistic tools to this multi-faceted conversation. Discipline encompasses so much of our family's culture and we stress why behavior modification is not the goal. We discuss spanking, some of our own story and where we are currently at with this tool. It takes time and patience to get to the heart issue with each child, but that is where transformation lies. Our goal is not for our family to just appear "well behaved" on the outside. How do we teach our children consequences for their choices, but more importantly why is this important? The goal of restoration for everyone in the family is at the center of the discipline tools we use.

In this episode, we discuss a listener's question of "How do you parent each child with having 10 of them? This is a great topic and something to process in every size family. Intentionality is key! We share some of the different personalities in our own children and practical ways we support their individual growth. We believe it's important to reject labels and that children are a mirror to ourselves. Each child stretches us to examine our parenting style and discuss how we aim to overcome these obstacles. As they all grow up so fast, we hope to hold space for the unique gift that each child is to our large family.

In this episode, we continue the conversation about leadership and communication in the home. We push into the idea of speaking the truth in love to your spouse when you need something to change. How does a wife encourage her husband to step up or set him up for success? What type of environment does a male want to lead in and maximize servant leadership? These are questions we continually process to get to the root issues that remain unaddressed when seasons or roles need to shift. Protecting the spiritual dynamic of a family is complex, layered and hard work. We want to encourage you that humility, service and love go a long way!

In this episode, we answer a listener's question about what content we consume. What books do we read and when? Drexel explains a great reason of why he currently isn't in "Bible studies." We debate how to consume content we don't agree with. We discuss what we study and what falls in the category of entertainment? We talk about walking wisely, when we make time for entertainment and how do we decide what to consume?
