This episode will take you to Whole New Worlds, so please, Be Our Guest, and remember, you Ain't Never Had a Podcast Like Us. Actually, we make far fewer Disney puns in this episode, but we do discuss Kingdom Hearts 3, and once more Joel is the closest to a well-read fan, while Curtis has played without following the story too closely and Kat has never played but enjoys the story. Lot of fanfiction moments in this episode, folks!
For this episode, we're bringing you discussion of not 1, but 3 rom-com shows with different levels of comedy and fan-service. Though To-Love-Ru almost killed us, we found a way to persevere. THe other 2 series: The World God Only Knows and Ouran High School Host club. In addition to discussing what we liked or didn't from each series, we bring in discussion of One Piece. What would their host-club personalities be like?
It's time for Kat's pick for a bonus episode, and we chose the second Equestria Girls movie! We try and see if Curtis (completely removed from this series) can name the mane 6 characters and their elements of friendship/harmony, and Joel has a fanfic moment about "Shadow Luffy"- or would it be... Luffy Black? Nega Luffy? Anti Luffy? Yfful? So join us for some great laughter (and, we suppose, generosity, kindness, honesty, loyalty, and magic)!
Curtis takes the space-helm in this episode, and this time Joel is the newbie! It's also our first science fiction based bonus episodes, and it turns out Joel is a larger fan of fantasy, while this is Curtis's bread and butter. We discuss how drab and hopeless the future seems to be, moral relativity, and racial tensions, the old stable of speculative fiction. Joel predicts space Hulks and space Cthulu in future seasons. Plus, Holden and Miller should kiss.
Welcome to the very first bonus episode we ever recorded. We apologize if the audio is not what you expect- it's something of a time capsule for our old set up. But more importantly, pokemon! It's a huge series with which your hosts each have some familiarity- some strong, some not as much. So enjoy as we talk cross overs and whether this long running series could work well with the other long running series near and dear to our hearts. Pocket Pirates? Pirate Monsters? Either way it'll be a blast!
Chatting with the Hosts starts at 2:19
We have a lot to talk about this week! We're both big fans of Stephen King's Needful Things, though we do wonder if perhaps Mr. King is insane, as one does. We enjoy Pretty Cure alright, but are a little worried it's too episodic, which isn't always our favorite style of story telling.
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic has had its end, which had been a large part of Kathryn's life for a time.
And Lastly, Joel has continued his watch-through of Black Clover, and has made it to the arc with the Witch Queen- he's a huge fan of how those episodes play out.
Regular episode resumes at 21:21 And boy, there's a lot of information to be had! Robin's backstory plays out, delivering world building, more moral viewpoints to consider, and we see first hand the tragedy of the buster call. We also meet Saul, who is notably the first Giant with the D initial, and the first Giant in the marines proper. We also ponder the use of the word "devil" or "demon" throughout One Piece, and we talk about the importance of flags.
Chatting with the Hosts starts at 2:27 We discuss: the Black Clover anime, Paul Kreuger's Steel Crow Saga, and Kat's first step on her Inuyasha journey. Regular episode resumes at 17:36
Luffy has evolved one step further in this episode. We also celebrate the greatness of Sodom, Gamorrah, Sogeking, and Franky being a feral biter! Plus, we get plenty of stuff to speculate, such as what devil fruit powers Kaku and Kalifa will get, what's inside Devil Fruits, and if Zoro is manifesting a new power!
We introduce a new segment, "Chatting with the Hosts" and will use time stamps moving forward. Chatting with the Hosts starts at 9:46 We discuss: the Black Clover anime, Futari wa Pretty Cure, Pierce Brown's Iron Gold (and the Red Rising series in general), Paul Kreuger's Steel Crow Saga and Last Call at the Nightshade Lounge, and Rustage's Straw Hat Pirates Rap Cypher Regular episode resumes at 25:58 This episode has 3 headed-judges, flying trains, giants, and the moment for Water 7 and Franky Family having their moment to shine. Also, the 3 members of CP9 we meet this episode are weird. Like, REALLY Weird. And One Piece has... Power Levels??
The show bids farewell to its One Piece Casual. Though the crew is now smaller, we shall continue to sail towards the horizon
In a break from our typical format, we discuss the fourteenth One Piece movie: Stampede, and we allow ourselves to break our no-spoilers rule, so if you're not caught up on the series, maybe give this one a pass. This was a celebration of 20 years of the One Piece anime, and we take a deep dive into everything we loved, and things we felt held it back. So strap in and enjoy this special episode
