Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

In week 7 of "Come & See", Jesus is making the claim that He (and He alone) is The Way, & The Truth, & The Life. The context of this passage is hugely important because it isn't Jesus proclaiming His exclusivity to a crowd of lost people looking for a way or to an idolatrous culture looking for truth or to a hospital of sick looking for life. He's speaking to a room of His closest friends and followers on the night before His death. They have "troubled hearts" (John 14:1; 14:27) and He wants to encourage and comfort them. 

Jesus says, "I AM...": 

The Way :: Jesus is the path to God and the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus doesn't just have a way. He isn't pointing the way. Jesus Himself is the way. When life is chaotic and confusing and you don't know which way to go or where to turn, Jesus is the path. He is the Way.

The Truth :: Jesus is ultimate reality. Many make the mistake of looking at Jesus as some ethereal, spiritual alternative reality. However, Jesus is True Reality. He is the Beginning and the End. When everything else passes away, He will be what endures to the end. He is the Truth.

The Life :: Jesus is eternal, abundant life. Maybe you've been dealt a bad hand. Maybe your life won't be as good or long as you thought. If this is all there is, then that is soul crushing. But Jesus claims to be true, eternal, abundant life. If He has your life, then you have His and there is always something to look forward to; no matter the circumstances of this life. He is the Life.

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." -John 10:11

In week 5 of "Come & See", Jesus is making the claim that He (and He alone) is The Good Shepherd. What is He saying? Jesus is saying that He alone is the Leader we should follow and trust to guide us to truth and life. There are plenty of other leaders we can follow and voices we can submit to, but Jesus alone is the leader and voice that can and will lead us to true life. The good news? This Leader is good. He cares about us. He has proven this by laying His life down (and taking it back up again) for us.

Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the door for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. I am the door; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. -John 10:7-10

In week 4 of "Come & See", Jesus is making the claim that He (and He alone) is The Door. He claims that by coming to Him and following Him you and I "will be saved, come in and go out, and find pasture." What is He saying? Jesus is saying that He alone is the portal of access to the presence of God and the Kingdom of Heaven. You cannot access God, His presence, or all that He offers through any other means. What you most deeply long for is on the other side of one door and Jesus is that door. The good news? The door is unlocked and open to you. The question is will you walk through it?

"When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, 'I am the Light of the World. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'" -John 8:12

In week 3, Jesus is making the claim that He (and He alone) is THE Light of the World. He claims that by coming to Him and following Him you and I "will no longer walk in darkness but have the light of life." What is He saying? Jesus is saying that all the wisdom, revelation, and understanding needed for life is found in Him and Him alone. You cannot know God or understand life apart from Jesus. We inevitably look for other paths or ways or "lights" to look through to understand God, life, purpose, and human flourishing, but none of it works apart from Him. Why? Because it's all ultimately tainted by sin and broken. However, there's good news. Anyone can come to Jesus, the Light of the World, and find the light of life.

"Then Jesus declared, 'I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.'" -John 6:25

In week two of "Come & See: Considering the Radical Claims of Jesus", we break down Jesus' radical claim of being the Bread of Life. Comparing the longings of our hearts to hunger pangs, Jesus makes the audacious claim to be able to satisfy our souls for eternity. All of us have desires, longings, and hungers, but where do we take those and are we being satisfied? If not, it might be worth considering Jesus' claim.

In this message, Pastor Blake will ask and attempt to answer three vital questions: What is desire?  Where does our desire come from?  What does God want to do with our desire?
