Peter turns his attention to the “beloved” and reminds them that, in spite of scoffers who live lustfully and mock the truth, Christians are to be diligent and live their lives in light of the reality that Christ will return and judge the world.
Peter gives warning that there will be false teachers and prophets among them who are neglecting the truth of Scripture and are bringing destructive heresies, sensuality and greed.
As Peter approaches his own martyrdom he is resolved in reminding us to continue to press onward and grow in our faith so that we can be assured of our calling and election.
