BE ENCOURAGED

FIERCELY INCLUSIVE
“When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, “So then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life.”
(Acts 11:18)

Do you sometimes struggle with prejudice?
You’re definitely not the first, and you won’t be the last!

It’s blatantly obvious when reading the Gospels that Jesus came to save the world. Not only certain people, but ALL people who call on the Name of the LORD. But it took a sheet filled with all sorts of weird and wacky animals for the message to truly hit home for the first church.
This week, we look at Acts 11: 1-18 and ponder what all this ‘inclusivity’ means for us as followers of the way.

LISTENING TO LIGHT

It’s been a busy week:

• A new Pope
• David Attenborough’s 99th Birthday
• A trade deal with the US of A

• And 8 Scottish rugby players in the Lions Squad!

Amidst dark times, there’s always reason to rejoice as we look to Christ as the light of the world.

This week, we look at the importance of knowing that Jesus was indeed a Jew, and that he participated in the festivals of Judaism… I’m excited to share some insight with you on the festival of lights from John 10: 22-30!

RECONCILED

The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.”

This week, a BBQ will set the scene for reinstating Peter in his role as keyholder of the kirk. Last week we spoke about ‘scars’ and this week we’ll look at what might happen if we allow Jesus to act as surgeon to ‘open’ us up when we’ve erred…

“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”
(Isaiah 53:5)

On the Second Sunday of Easter, we look at the story of Disciple Thomas seeking proof of Christ’s resurrection. Remarkably, Jesus does show him his scars and the wounds inflicted on him. 
What does this mean? Jesus resurrected still carrying the signs of his crucifixion… but why?
How should it impact my personal journey with the Lord?

The mission is complete. 

Jesus died the most brutal of deaths on a cross for you, and for me.

Take time to reflect on this truth.

If possible; read through John 19: 1-37 a few times.

Think of Jesus for a moment. The person of Jesus. What adjective best describes Him?

• Kind?
• Compassionate?
• Happy?
• Joyful?

What about ‘weird’ or ‘odd’ or ‘strange’ or ‘peculiar’…?
For many he was exactly that: beyond comprehension with his supernatural abilities and counter-cultural teachings. So much so, that his own friends at some point thought he must be losing the plot. When Jesus’ WAYS became incomprehensible they sent word to his family to intervene by taking him away (probably wanted him to be checked out by a psychiatrist of sorts!)… can you imagine that? Don’t believe me? 
We’ll you’re in for a treat! Because on Sunday we’ll discuss the wonderful nature of all things whacky and weird and why you’re in good company when you’ve been describes as ‘unusual’…
