Interesting Things To Do

Yesterday we watched a production of Carousel from Lincoln Centre New York. It had basic sets but a full orchestra, much like the Production Company shows, but the cast and orchestra were both excellent, and this is a show that doesn’t get revived often (though I did see a spectacular production on Broadway in 2018). It’s a fairly dark musical, but there are some great songs such as If I Loved You, June Is Busting Out All Over and You’ll Never Walk Alone. It’s available on Youtube.

Today we watched the National Theatre Live production of Amadeus. Truly demented and truly amazing, it was at once annoying and uncomfortable and then transcendent and uplifting. Not for everybody, because my husband and a close friend both gave up on it, but I was amply rewarded by  a little perseverance. The performances by the lead actors were all wonderful, and full credit to the orchestra and chorus for performances mainly on the go. Can’t wait to see what next weeks theatrical gem will be.
