Why did I want to talk with Jerzey Mike Faria? Mike has done a 180 in his recovery journey, openly sharing his struggles and triumphs as a social media influencer. He is open, honest, and vulnerable. Mike is passionate about his personal as well as his family's mental health and he speaks openly about his childhood that led to a path of substance use and alcoholism.
Mike's story started simple enough, but he pinpoints the absence of a male role model in his youth playing into his stealing and using drugs and alcohol. Mike states "It made me feel like I was a man" and trouble followed.
Mike eventually used and abused alcohol and no other drugs, in the midst of a tumultuous relationship Mike's drinking escalated to the point of landing him in a coma. Mike shares now the aftermath of putting his life back together and growing as a man, father, and in his faith.

Why did I want to talk with Chris Van Vliet? Chris is a 4-time Emmy award-winning TV Host, Entertainment Reporter, and YouTuber based in Los Angeles, CA. Chris often speaks with those he interviews about gratitude. I wanted to ask Chris about the importance of gratitude from him, Intentional living, checking one's ego, accepting a NO and using it as a YES, plus finding ways to be innovative.
Chris has traveled the world reporting from events like the Oscars, Grammys, and the Cannes Film Festival. You may be familiar with the interviews that Chris posts on YouTube but to just call them “interviews” doesn’t seem fair because they are so much more than that. Chris dives deep into interesting topics with his trademark conversational approach that makes it feel like two old friends catching up. This is the case when it’s a wrestling superstar like John Cena, The Rock, or Hulk Hogan, or a Hollywood A-Lister like Oprah Winfrey, Tom Cruise, or Will Smith.

Why did I want to talk with David Scheetz Jr? I spoke with David about not only his time as a commercial fisherman and appearing on the TV show the Deadliest Catch, but we also discussed his path from addiction to working his sobriety. David opens up about his childhood trauma in a way that he never has before in a recorded audio or video conversation. David tells of the depths of his trauma that included severe mental, emotional and physical abuse.
Now being of service David is truly a sign that no matter how far one falls anyone can recover. David's life now includes outreach work through ministry, helping the homeless, public speaking, his Motivationinprogress clothing brand, and being a husband and father.

Why did I want to talk with Allison Rush on the Knockin' Doorz Down podcast? I am your host Jason LaChance, and I spoke with Allison Rush because of her passion for ending the stigma around addiction recovery and those suffering from mental health issues. Allison has been a part of the behind-the-scenes team of the Knockin' Doorz Down Podcast success.
Allison has not only worked on the marketing side of some of the nation's prominent addiction rehabilitation facilities in the United States, she personally has had loved ones who have suffered terribly from the disease of addiction and serve mental health issues.
We talk about her personal journey of seeking help in the rooms of Al-Anon, the anonymous support group for family members of those with active addiction. Through this, she found hope, her own sense of self, and the important step of setting boundaries with the addict and not being an enabler.
Because of her personal experience, she offered her insight into what she believes is going on with Kanye West, his sporadic behavior, and his mental health struggles.
Her company Prime Public Relations & Marketing is a division of Prime Entertainment Worldwide and is a full-service marketing and public relations creative agency. The firm is located in Boca Raton, Florida, and represents brands in industries including Hospitality, Travel, Healthcare, Lifestyle, Luxury Brands, Celebrity, and Entertainment. From concept to completion, Prime Public Relations & Marketing knows how to build innovative digital marketing campaigns that deliver results.

Why did I want to talk with Daniel Hearn on the Knockin' Doorz Down podcast? I am your host Jason LaChance, and I spoke with Daniel Hearn because we share a mutual passion for ending the stigma around addiction recovery and those suffering from mental health issues.
Daniel is an active member of the addiction recovery community and a loud voice to end the stigma so that no one thinks they have to suffer in silence. The Hard Knox Talks team prides itself in raising awareness around Substance Use Disorders and Mental Illness. They have found that recognizing the unmanageability of our thoughts and actions is often the first step toward recovery.
The lived experience brought them to this point. Daniel Hearn has himself been walking the road to recovery for several years. His vision is to help those who would decide to walk that path if the resources were available. That's why they're here. To give voice to those silenced by stigma—expected to act appropriately while in the grips of insanity. They are here to help those who are lost as we once were, to grow as we are, and to show the world that the lie is dead. We do recover.

Why did I want to talk with Kalan Kellerhals on the Knockin' Doorz Down podcast? I am your host Jason LaChance, and I spoke with Kalan because I was fascinated with his recovery path and the depths his addiction took him. We discuss his strict religious upbringing, how he felt sheltered and how the path that he was told to walk didn't leave him with the purpose he was told it would fulfill. With a familiar story of feeling like an outsider that leads him to the depths of despair in his full-blown opioid and heroin addiction to meeting his wife and finding a recovery path that has taken him to a life of purpose. Kalan's path is nonconventional, and not for everyone, but I wanted to speak with someone who took a nontraditional approach to recovery. We also talk about how the musician Jelly Roll has greatly inspired him.
Kalan and his wife started Green Thumb Naturals. He say's, "More than likely I’m a lot like you…I have chronic pain as well as PTSD and severe anxiety.
Although these drugs relieved physical pain, they left him depressed, lethargic, and always wanting more…Because the pain never truly went away.
So, he started taking more. The more he took, the worse his depression and outlook on life became. He remembers thinking some horrible thoughts in those times of hopelessness and anguish.
This is when Greenthumb Naturals was born, with a desire to provide their products at an affordable price to those seeking the same relief and growth that he found.
This is Kalan KellerHals in his own words on Knockin' Doorz Down.

Why did I want to talk with Kelsie Igasan on the Knockin' Doorz Down podcast? I am your host Jason LaChance, and I spoke with Kelsie because she has been a personal inspiration, not only for her activism in the addiction recovery community but also for her vulnerability as a wife and mother. Leading by example to show her children that they need not carry any shame that surrounds addiction and mental health issues.
Kelsie was a nationally ranked all-star cheerleader and gymnast, now a recovering alcoholic/addict, suicide survivor, and mom of four. She educates communities on the dangers of trauma and its impact on mental health and addiction. She entered into recovery in 2006 at the age of sixteen; she is a trauma survivor who lived through teen incarceration, sexual assault, a traumatic brain injury both on and off the mat, mental health disorders, and in 2017 survived a suicide attempt in the thick of a relapse; leading to long term recovery.
With over a decade of experience in recovery; Kelsie shares her story of trauma survival with the hopes of ending the mental health stigma while inspiring others to live unashamed with purpose.
Kelsie is doing amazing work in her community, sharing her story with anyone and everyone who can gain value from The Butterfly Inside. The Butterfly Inside provides trauma-informed services including public speaking education on addiction, traumatic brain injuries, suicide prevention, interventions, addiction treatment placement, and mentorship to women and adolescent girls in crisis.

Why did I want to talk with Jewels on the Knockin' Doorz Down podcast? I am your host Jason LaChance, and I spoke with Jewels because I was absolutely interested in her sobriety journey and why she wrote her book 'The Making Of A Woman'. Trigger warning, if you are in recovery for sex and love addiction this may be a conversation that challenges your sobriety.
I personally found Jewels' book, fascinating and it led to asking myself many introspective questions about trauma, boundaries, sexual expression, and contribution to the recovery community.
THE MAKING OF A WOMAN is the compelling autobiography of a dynamic female who refused to bow down to the circumstances of her birth. With a prevailing sense of self and survival, Jewels fought a hardscrabble war against the forces and people that populated her life in a way that often crushes others.
Jewels is an award-winning author, speaker, and bodybuilder and hope to inspire others to push forward no matter the challenges. After enduring an abusive childhood, Jewels decided to use her earlier trauma to enter recovery, sexually liberate herself, and enter the competitive world of bodybuilding. At age 49, Jewels placed 3rd at the NPC North American Championships in 2021. Jewels has appeared on numerous media outlets to discuss a variety of important topics from her memoir including childhood trauma, sexual abuse, alcoholism, shame, LGBTQ, and alternate lifestyles.
