There is a kind of laughter that comes after a long season of waiting, when the thing you had almost stopped hoping for finally happens. It is not the laugh of disbelief anymore.

The Lord visits Sarah as He had said and does for her as He promised. Sarah conceives and bears Abraham a son in his old age, at the appointed time God had spoken.

Luke 1 records Mary’s song after God promises the birth of Jesus. She praises the Lord for seeing humble people, showing mercy, bringing down the proud, and keeping His promises to Abraham and his offspring.

God does what He says. Genesis repeats that Isaac is born as God had spoken, as He had promised, and at the appointed time.

Isaac’s birth keeps alive the promise that will lead to Jesus. Through Abraham’s line, God brings the Savior who fulfills the mercy Mary sings about.

Remember one promise God has already kept in your life or in Scripture. Write it down and thank Him specifically.

DAY 34: Abraham and Abimelech

It is frustrating when you fail in a way you thought you had outgrown. Same fear.

Abraham travels to Gerar and says that Sarah is his sister. King Abimelech takes Sarah, but God comes to him in a dream and warns him that she is another man’s wife.

Psalm 105 remembers how God protected the patriarchs when they were few and vulnerable, saying He allowed no one to oppress them and rebuked kings for their sake. That gives context for Genesis 20.

God is faithful and morally serious. He protects Sarah, warns Abimelech, restrains sin, and exposes Abraham’s deception.

Abraham fails to protect Sarah because fear controls Him. Jesus protects His people by giving Himself for them in love.

Name one repeated pattern you keep excusing. Ask what fear sits underneath it.

DAY 33: Broken Choices After Rescue

Surviving a crisis does not automatically make someone healthy. Fear, trauma, isolation, and distrust can keep shaping choices long after the danger passes.

After escaping Sodom, Lot becomes afraid to live in Zoar and moves with his two daughters into the hills, where they stay in a cave. His daughters believe there is no man left to continue their family line.

First Corinthians 10 says the stories of Israel were written as examples and warnings for us. Genesis 19 is not included to satisfy curiosity or shock us for no reason.

God’s word is honest about ugly family sin. He does not sanitize the people connected to the biblical story.

Jesus enters a human story filled with scandal, fear, and family damage. He does not come because humanity is respectable; He comes because we need redemption.

Notice where fear has been making your options feel smaller. Before making a desperate choice, tell one trustworthy person what you are thinking or feeling.

God, fear can make me think I have to handle everything alone. Please stop me before desperation leads me into sin. Give me courage to bring dark thoughts into Your light and to ask for wise help.

DAY 32: Lot Rescued

Sometimes mercy has to pull you away from what you are too slow to leave. You may know something is dangerous, but still hesitate because it feels familiar, comfortable, or connected to people you love.

At dawn, the angels urge Lot to take his wife and daughters and leave Sodom before the city is destroyed. Lot lingers, so the angels grasp their hands and bring them outside because the Lord is merciful to him.

Second Peter 2 says God condemned Sodom and Gomorrah as an example, yet rescued righteous Lot, who was distressed by the lawless deeds around him. Peter uses Lot’s rescue to show that the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and hold the unrighteous for judgment.

God is merciful in action, not only in feeling. The angels take Lot by the hand because the Lord has compassion on Him.

Lot is pulled from judgment by mercy, but Jesus goes into judgment willingly to rescue us. At the cross, He bears the fire of God’s justice against sin so His people can be brought out alive.

Identify one thing God has been telling you to leave. Do not romanticize it.

God, I admit that I sometimes linger near what You tell me to leave. Thank You for mercy that takes me seriously and pulls me toward life. Help me stop looking back with desire at what harms me.

DAY 31: Sodom Warned

A warning can feel dramatic when life still looks normal. People are eating, joking, making plans, chasing pleasure, and assuming tomorrow will work like yesterday.

Two angels arrive in Sodom, and Lot urges them to stay in his house instead of spending the night in the square. Before they sleep, the men of the city surround the house and demand to abuse the visitors.

In Luke 17, Jesus says the days of Lot were filled with ordinary activity: eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, and building. Then destruction came suddenly.

God hears the outcry against evil and sends warning before judgment. He is not blind to violence, exploitation, or corruption.

Jesus speaks about Lot’s days because He wants people awake before final judgment. He does not warn to entertain fear; He warns to call sinners to rescue.

Ask whether there is any warning from God you have started treating casually. It could come through Scripture, a trusted person, conviction, or consequences.

DAY 30: Abraham Intercedes

When you hear about judgment, injustice, or someone heading toward disaster, you might feel helpless. You can rant, scroll, worry, or shut down.

After the visitors leave, the Lord speaks about Abraham’s future role in teaching righteousness and justice. Then God reveals that the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and that their sin is severe.

James 5 says the prayer of a righteous person has great power as it works. Abraham’s prayer shows that kind of serious intercession.

God is perfectly simply and willing to listen. Abraham asks, “Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is right?” That question rests on God’s character.

Abraham’s intercession points toward Jesus, who intercedes more fully than any human could. Christ does not plead from a distance; He gives Himself for sinners under judgment.

Choose one person or place that needs God’s mercy and justice. Pray specifically, not vaguely.

DAY 29: Visitors and Sarah's Laughter

Some moments look ordinary until you realize God is doing something much bigger than you noticed. A meal, a conversation, a knock at the door, or an interruption can feel inconvenient at first.

Abraham sits near the oaks of Mamre when three men appear. He hurries to welcome them, offers water, rest, and food, and serves them with generous care.

Hebrews 13 encourages believers to show hospitality because some have entertained angels without knowing it. Abraham’s welcome in Genesis 18 echoes that truth.

God is patient with fragile faith. He hears Sarah’s hidden laugh, names it truthfully, and still keeps His promise.

The question “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” points all the way to Jesus. His birth comes through divine power, His death looks like defeat, and His resurrection proves that God brings life where humans see impossibility.

Practice alert hospitality. Notice one person you might usually rush past or ignore.

DAY 28: Isaac Promised

Some promises sound impossible because you know too much. You know the obstacles, the history, the delays, the medical facts, the family patterns, the odds.

God changes Sarai’s name to Sarah and promises to bless her. She will have a son, and kings of peoples will come from her.

Romans 4 reflects on Abraham’s faith and says he hoped against hope. He faced the reality of his aged body and Sarah’s barrenness, yet he grew strong in faith because he believed God could do what He promised.

God is specific and sovereign. He names Isaac before the child exists and sets an appointed time for His birth.

Isaac’s promised birth points forward to the greater miracle of Christ. God brings life where human strength cannot produce it.

Name one situation where you have stopped expecting God to work because it seems too late or too unlikely. Tell Him the honest reason hope feels hard.

DAY 27: Covenant Sign Given

Identity markers matter. A team jersey, school hoodie, family name, profile picture, or ring can say something about belonging.

When Abram is ninety-nine years old, the Lord appears to him as God Almighty. He commands Abram to live before Him and be blameless.

Romans 4 explains that Abraham was counted righteous before he was circumcised. Circumcision came afterward as a sign and seal of the righteousness he had by faith.

God names, claims, and commands His people. He changes Abram’s name to Abraham, tying His identity to divine promise rather than visible circumstances.

The covenant sign points forward to the deeper work Christ brings. Jesus fulfills the promise to Abraham and opens covenant blessing to all who believe.

Look at one outward marker of your faith, such as church attendance, a Bible, a necklace, a post, or a role. Ask whether it matches real trust and obedience.

DAY 26: Hagar Is Seen by God

Being unseen can hurt in a way that is hard to explain. People may use you, talk over you, make decisions that affect you, or notice you only when you become inconvenient.

Sarai has no children, so she tells Abram to have a child through Hagar, her servant. Abram listens, and Hagar becomes pregnant.

Psalm 139 says God searches, knows, surrounds, and understands us completely. That truth becomes deeply personal in Hagar’s story.

God sees the person others overlook. He hears affliction, speaks to the outcast, and gives Hagar’s son a name tied to His attention.

Jesus is the fullest proof that God sees the afflicted. He comes near to the overlooked, the used, the shamed, and the pushed aside.

Find a quiet moment and say to God, “You see me here.” Name the actual place: school stress, family tension, loneliness, pressure, or fear. Then notice one person who may feel unseen and give them sincere attention without making the moment about you.
