  • Exploring The Soul - 12 - Spiritual Vision
Exploring The Soul - Part 12
    "Spiritual Vision"
(Recorded at the Intown Jewish Academy on May 7, 2017)
They say that seeing is believing. When you hear something, it may be true. When you see something, you know it's true.
This is true on a spiritual level as well. The Kabbalists teach that there's hearing about G-d, and then there's seeing G-d. Two totally different experiences. And while hearing is a great start, only seeing is truly believing.
In this session of Kabbalah & Coffee we explore spiritual vision -- what it means, and how we can achieve it.

  • Exploring The Soul - 11 - Love in Two Dimensions
Exploring The Soul - Part 11
    "Love in Two Dimensions"
(Recorded at the Intown Jewish Academy on April 30, 2017)
There are two types of love -- the love of what you get, and the love of what the other is. The first kind of love feels good; the second is good.
Kabbalah teaches that these two loves exist in every relationship, including our relationship with G-d. Knowing what each is and the differences between them can make all the difference between a healthy and unhealthy relationship.
In this session of Kabbalah & Coffee we explore the Kabbalistic notion of love, in two dimensions. You're going to love it!

  • Exploring The Soul - 10 - The Human Ark
Exploring The Soul - Part 10
    "The Human Ark"
(Recorded at the Intown Jewish Academy on April 23, 2017)
Arguably the most famous of the ancient Jewish Temple's vessels is the Holy Ark. For millennia the Ark has been the subject of lore and legend, art and literature, movies and mystery.
But its mystery is itself a mystery.
See, the Ark was a fairly utilitarian vessel. It was a box that served to house the Tablets. Yes, the Tablets were pretty special, and yes, the Ark itself was made of gold -- but why did the Ark become such a big deal? Why all the fanfare and folklore?
The answer is fairly simple: We've known from the beginning that the Ark is not just a physical vessel, a utilitarian box. Rather, the Ark is the most compelling template for the human being ever imagined. And that's pretty incredible to behold.
In this session of Kabbalah & Coffee we discover the real secrets of the ancient Holy Ark. What we uncover may be more valuable to us than unearthing the golden Ark itself.

  • Survival of a Nation - Lesson 5
    Israel in Perspective
    Viewpoints on the Land’s Identity
The Six-Day War had a profound impact on Diaspora Jewry. In its immediate aftermath, waves of new immigrants arrived in the Jewish state, while countless others experienced a spiritual reawakening. When the euphoria wore off, however, extreme diversity in perspective and reaction emerged—toward the war, and toward the State of Israel. What are the factors underwriting this fragmentation, and how do they influence Israel’s political process today?

  • Survival of a Nation - Lesson 4
    Occupied with Peace
On the Viability of Land for Peace
Israel’s pre-1967 borders subsequently became known as the “Green Line,” to distinguish them from territories captured during the Six-Day War. Israel immediately offered to return her newly-acquired territories in exchange for lasting peace, but the Arab world rejected the offer. Subsequent attempts at exchanging land for peace have failed to resolve the issues surrounding these territories. Should Israel hold on to them no matter the cost? Is there an authentic way to trade land for a lasting and sustainable peace?
