In the second half of the 19th century, more than twenty Ottoman travelers toured western European cities and wrote their observations “en route”. Ottoman civilian accounts were serialized in newspapers, thematic periodicals and weekly journals; soon after several were re-published in book format. In this podcast, the guest speaker Semra Horuz, reverses the focus on travel narratives and provides a fresh look at the copious late Ottoman civilian travelogues.
