We’ve been having a lot more reunions on the show and this one was definitely long overdue. The last time we had Jay Hoang on the podcast he was in the beginning stages of JToons and we were at the beginning stages of the podcast. Now after 2 colouring books, 500+ car commissions and a recent apparel drop, he found time to sit down with us again and talk about his newest passion project.

As another year passes, Nau does another solo episode to reflect on everything Kodawari has done in 2021. From all kinds of content creation for YouTube, Instagram, finding our niche with diecast sales, and organizing car meets, all while running a detailing shop and staying consistent with the KodaCast. None of this was easy to do, but with each mistake comes a lesson learned. Watching team members come and go and really settling into our roles at Kodawari has been the biggest take away - knowing all this and going into 2022 with a clearer vision, we can't wait to show you everything we have planned!

Sitting down with our next guest was a real treat. As a long time follower, Nau watched Matt from his YouTube beginnings as a guy detailing his car, while obsessing and testing products on the detailing market. Little did we know, the video journalling was a form of therapy that turned into Obsessed Garage. Fast forward to 2019 when Kodawari found a commercial space, the first thing we did was contact Matt and his team to help us design the shop and fill it with tools of the trade.
A big topic that Matt emphasizes is the importance of the garage space in a house and why, when buying a house, this is something to really consider, (seeing that it’s usually one of the biggest spaces in the house) and really highlighting niche products that you would want for your space.
We also dive into real, personal stories about growing up in a household with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and having the humility to work hard at any job; This mindset would echo the work Matt does today, as he puts pressure on himself to oversee the well-being of his team, while continually building his business and watching his mental health - he reveals how this weight of responsibility has lead him to sit shotgun for awhile.

Starting where all great friendships begin, we met our next guest at the very first Coffee Run meet for @collectingcars in Toronto, back in October. Cliff, having been in the finance industry for the past 25 years, found a chance to grow outside of his industry and move into a field that was more suited to his passion: all things cars. We listen to his journey and realize that no matter where you are in life, there will always be opportunities for you if you’re willing to take the chance and get creative. We also discuss what the future for Collecting Cars hold, and how that platform will help the Canadian market with our unique demographic of collectors and enthusiasts.

We’ve all been there, where what you learn in school doesn’t become relevant, or important to you until you start applying it to something you really enjoy, and that’s what happened with our next guest: Derick Biones from Project1. Being the curious person that he is, asking lots of questions is very natural for him; whether he’s getting to know someone, or just curious about a car build. This eventually led him down the path to where Project1 is today, a platform to dive into people and their passions. These friends are like two peas in a pod, exploring topics surrounding self-improvement and digging into a little philosophy discussing ‘thoughtful disagreement’ and how it relates to business and relationships.

In our last episode of 2021, we wanted to leave on a positive note. Even though we try to focus on automotive and detailing, we find that a lot of what we talk about and the stories we hear have a common theme: An opportunity to be better and to do better. So, as we move into a new year, we wanted to share stories that takes things into different perspectives and help to create a positive mindset.
See you in 2022!

Celebrating 10 years in the auto mechanic industry this Jan 2022, Nhu Nguyen joins Nau on the podcast to dive deep into the world of Porsche and the events that led her to be the first Classic Certified Woman for Porsche.
Having an interest for cars and a knack for working with her hands, she went on to build an amazing skill set centred mainly around Porsches and with that garnered opportunities to work along side Nakai-San on the Kitchener RWB build, being on a racetrack team and more. All of this is only one of the many hats that Nhu wears, as we explore her career and dig into the human condition and what drives people to pursue their passions.
The biggest take away from this episode is that you will never realize the doors that will open until you take that leap into the unknown. You never know what’s waiting for you on the other side!

Almost one year after their first episode together, Nau and Kaval sit down to talk about the past 12 months: what it's like building a business, working/managing employees and creating a niche. They get introspective and dive deep into the Kodawari Mindset. Question why some people work the way they do. How can a company build morale and support its employees with their goals? And finding happiness in your work.

Listening in on Nau and Austin, you would figure they were long time friends but sometimes people just click. Diving right into Austin's most recent restoration on a 1991 Civic EF, we knew he had the Kodawari Mindset. Every small detail of the vehicle was restored to the highest standard, which is something a son of an engineer would have a pretty good eye on. You can tell these two (now best friends) really value the same ideals when it comes to cars, ESPECIALLY Porsches, driving experience and overall outlook on sharing all this knowledge with the car community. Make sure to follow Austin as he continues to build his garage and tune in to find out what his next car project will be!
