The Slinkard Fire, west of Topaz in Mono County, California, continues to grow, it’s over 4,700 acres with zero containment. The Town of Topaz has been evacuated north of Monitor Pass to the Nevada state line. An evacuation center has been set up at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center. Powerlines are threatened and power outages are expected in Topaz, Walker and Coleville areas. The fire crossed California 89 and moved east towards Topaz with the afternoon down canyon winds, the U.S. Forest Service reported. Structure protection units are in place.
