Evacuations are underway in the Ray May Way area, as East Fork Fire Protection District and the Bureau of Land Management work to contain a roughly 115-acre brush fire in Douglas County. The Preacher Fire is burning in the Preacher Mine area southeast of the Gardnerville Ranchos, and was reported about 3:45this morning. Air support has been called in from Sierra Front with hand crews from the Nevada Division of Forestry. Firefighters say there is no wind and a little rain, and they think lightning is the cause.

The Douglas County Senior Center has been set up as an evacuation center for residents "living between Fred's Road and Pine Nut Creek Road between Blue J and Ruby Mine area."

Crews with the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District made quick work of a 3 acres wildfire that was threatening homes in Lemmon Valley. The Chickadee Fire was knocked down in about 90 minutes. At least six fire engines and three air tankers responded to attack the fire according to Battalion Chief Mike Heikka
