The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office has won a guilty verdict in a felony domestic battery trial. 40 year old Kevin T. Davis was charged with battering his wife after he threw her into a closed elevator door, shattering her clavicle bone, and causing her to fall to the floor. Once on the ground, the defendant kicked the victim in the chest repeatedly, leaving the 4'11, 95 pound victim badly bruised. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison and sentencing is set for May 9th.

Governor Brian Sandoval and Nevada Division of Emergency Management Chief Caleb Cage, have announced the U.S. Small Business Administration is making low-interest federal disaster loans available in Washoe County, to businesses and residents affected by storms and flooding that occurred in February. Cage says affected homeowners should inventory items that have been damaged or destroyed, and take advantage of SBA’s low-interest disaster loans. Businesses may borrow up to $2 million for any combination of property damage or economic injury.

Homeowners may borrow up to $200,000 to repair or replace their primary residence. Homeowners and renters may borrow up to $40,000 to replace personal property. Call SBA at (800) 659-2955

A jury in Washoe District Court has found a man guilty of second degree murder in the shooting death of another man in Siri's Casino in February of last year. Forty-year-old Kiley Scott Grayson is scheduled for sentencing on June 21st. Casino owner Jeff Siri told investigators the two men had been cooks at a nearby sister property, although neither was on the job during the confrontation. Grayson and the shooting victim had been eating at a snack bar at the back of the casino when the man who was shot pushed Grayson with a cane and Grayson pulled a gun and shot him. The name of the victim in the shooting has not been released by authorities.

The legislator who says everyone in Nevada is undertaxed and everything is under funded is at it again. Senator Tick Segerblom wants tax hikes on beer, liquor, and cigarettes. He'd take those funds and create a pilot program to treat heroin addicts. The bill would also raise gambling license fees by a quarter of a percent, raising the gross revenue tax paid by the states largets resorts to 7%. No action was taken by the health and human services committee.
