In my personal opinion, English is a language which has a "self-assertive" characteristic while Japanese is a lunguage with "the entirety and whole-focused nature."

I had an interpretation work with a boy from Myanmar. He is a first-grade boy from Myanmar. His Japanese is at very fundamental level and doesn't understand what the teacher says. He understands English. So, I interpreted what the teacher was saying to him in simple English.

【About this podcast】
"Being a Japanese English bilingual has a lot of great benefit. One is to develop the cognitive function of your brain and possibly prevent dementia."
This is something I found in the book I read. It is written by Shuhei Kadota.
According to the book, “research shows that bilingual speakers have excellent Central Executive Function in their prefrontal cortex of their brains because they have been using different parts of the brain. This would result in delaying the age of onset of dementia."
Moreover, according to the author, compared to French English bilingual speakers, Japanese English bilingual speakers can train their brains more and as a result improve the cognitive function.
This is because the linguistic distance between Japanese and English, which means the difference between those two languages, is extremely big.
The differences between French and English or between Spanish and English are not that big. Japanese on the other hand has many differences from the western languages including English. Because of that, it could both be challenging for the Japanese to learn and master English and result in the improvement of one’s cognitive function in the brain.
