February 11, 2018ANGER!!!Anger can be a scary emotion–both when we are angry and when someone is angry at us. In many predominantly white and privileged communities doing spiritual practice or emotion work, when facing the danger of anger, the tendency is to suppress it and project it onto others, to blame people of color and other disenfranchised people for the anger they often feel as a result of the actions of those with more privilege. How can we work more skillfully with anger so that all of our voices are heard? Host Marlena Willis explores using the tools of mindfulness meditation and Nonviolent Communication to work with anger, particularly focusing on anger between those in power and those with far less power. The post ANGER!!! appeared first on KPFA....more34minPlay

January 14, 2018Understanding the Heart of Immigration, with EmpathyHost Timothy Regan welcomes fellow counselor and healer Orlando Zuniga to apply the essential balm of empathy to our current painful national struggle to address immigration in the United States. We practice our skills and intentions to understand the humanity of people with different perspectives on immigration, from Mr. Trump himself, to the people Orlando has served, who are living the journey of immigration–searching through untold difficulty for a home to belong in, to be safe, healthy, and free. We slow down and listen as we hear stories and respond to them, so that we can come together to create solutions that honor the needs and values of everyone touched by immigration. The post Understanding the Heart of Immigration, with Empathy appeared first on KPFA....more18minPlay
