The show starts with the early history or International Women’s Day tracing it’s roots from 1908 when 30,000 women marched to New York demanding the right to vote to the present and how International Women’s Day will be observed on March 8th in Italy, Iran, New Zealand, the Philippines, Australia, and Egypt. We will be bringing you voices of women from around the world who will be marching and rallying for full equality.

Theme: women on death row. A look at the life of civil rights activist Ella Baker in complimentary tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day; the lives of women on death row; a commentary by Elizabeth Creely on the potential loss of our right to an abortion.

In celebration of Martin Luther King Holiday, we will look at the life of Ella Baker, only one of the many women of the Civil Rights Movement who have not been sufficiently recognized for their contribution to this movement. As we await the execution of Clarence Ray Allen, Women’s Magazine brings to light the lives of women on death row. Lastly we will hear a commentary by Elizabeth Creely of the Bay Area Coalition for Our Reproductive Rights on the potential loss of our right to an abortion.

There are currently 52 women on the death row in the US and 152 women who have been sentenced to death. This show looks at women on death row nation-wide, and a closer look at the 16 women on death row in the state of California. We will hear from Rachel King, co-author of the ACLU report, “A forgotten population: A look at death row in the US through the experiences of women.” On today’s show, we will also be talking to two prison activists.
