KRCU's Going Public

The Census Bureau recently released the raw numbers for the 2020 count. Among other things, the data is used to determine seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and determine how billions of dollars in federal funds are distributed. According to the numbers, Cape County grew by 9% and the Jackson grew by 12.5%. To learn more, we spoke with Brian Gerau, President of the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce.

SoutheastHEALTH recently announced plans for a major expansion at its west campus located on South Mount Auburn Road in Cape Girardeau. Dan Woods spoke with SoutheastHEALTH CEO Ken Bateman to learn more about the expansion. Woods : Tell us about the expansion and why you're doing it now. Bateman : Well, the expansion is a three-phase expansion. We actually started design of this expansion back in the early part of 2019, with COVID it got pushed back a little bit but it's a three-phase expansion.

Southeast Missouri State University’s hospitality management program has produced a new green Hawk Sauce that is now available. It’s a follow-up to their red Hawk Sauce that was created in the Spring 2019 semester. I spoke with Dr. Quantella Noto from Southeast’s Department of Hospitality Management to find out about the new sauce. She began our interview by taking us back to the beginning of the project.

If you’ve ever been doing research and needed to find some old documents (old tax records or school records, for example), chances are you make a visit to the Cape Girardeau County Archive Center in Jackson. The center houses documents from every county office and according to their website, they have some of the oldest records in the State of Missouri, dating back to the late 1790s.
