Year’s end is when people gather for holiday parties or family get togethers. It also means that food and beverages are crucial contributors to good times and  long lasting memories. It is no secret that food recipes, whether for home meals or large scale production, are only as good as the people who follow them, and the measurement tools they use. A pinch, dash, tad, smidgen, drop or sprinkle doesn’t exactly spell accuracy or lead to repeatability. That’s where process measurement instruments come into play.
Food production processes, like recipes, also involve some interesting challenges. For chocolate producers, they need to measure the ingredients down to the gram and they need need to control the temperature very closely. Butter and cheese producers need to control their separation and standardization processes very closely while bread, pastry and cake folks have a lot to control in their blending and mixing process. Not to mention that in every instance they also have to make sure their high standards of cleanliness and sterilization are always maintained and that records are up to date for regulators and inspectors.
KROHNE flow, level temperature and pressure sensors are used throughout the world in many of these applications and challenging environments and we will be discussing a few of the unique elements that set out devices apart and worthy of consideration for your process, whether it is for a food process, a chemical production plant or even a wastewater treatment facility.

Flowmeters have been used for hundreds of years, but it is only relatively recently that the most adaptable technology has become available for process applications. Coriolis meters were first patented in the 1950s and first introduced as lab instruments in the 70s. They began to be rolled out to specific process applications a decade later and have rapidly evolved in design and performance since then, to the point now where they are by far the most accurate and repeatable flow sensor technology for process liquids and gas applications. Some meter designs can also be applied to custody transfer situations, further validating their outstanding performance specifications.
Most Coriolis meters on the market then, and now, feature a multi-tube or single bent tube sensor design. KROHNE was among the earliest producers of Coriolis meters and quickly distinguished itself by developing the first single straight tube design for challenging processes that could not accept bent tube solutions. 
In this episode, I would like to discuss some of the challenges that Coriolis meters can tackle better than other flowmeter technologies and I would also like to take it a step further and share a few unique situations where only a very specific solution could be applied.

Yannick Farine is KROHNE’s Industry Specialist for Vegetable Oils. He is a member of the Global Food & Beverage Industry Marketing Division. He is based in Antwerp, in the Flemish region of Belgium and has been with KROHNE for over 5 years in various roles. He has been in his current role since January of 2022.
Right now he is focused on Global Business development for the edible oils industry while also having a few specific account management responsibilities
According to Yannick, based a variety of unique products and features within the KROHNE portfolio we can improve edible oils installations both technically and economically depending on the customers preferences. However, approaching the market with these unusual solutions deviates from common industry standards and it's my role to promote and spread this information. 
Which brings us to the subject for this session. It is energy management at food and edible oil production facilities. You might think that it does not apply to your area but think again since this content can also apply to any manufacturing facility. 
Specifically, Yannick will speak about steam applications, as well as heating and cooling water loops and the instrumentation solutions KROHNE has to offer for those. He’ll also touch on how to best address the customer’s hidden or unspoken requirements and how to counteract traditional biases and competitor positioning.
