  • Krush Performance: Performance Vision Training & The NFL Draft
Do you want to get better right now? There are some trainable aspects of performance that can impact performance immediately. Vision is one of the most powerful influencers on human performance in & out of sport. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most under valued & under trained areas of performance.
This week, Jeff Krushell talks about performance vision training with Ryan Harrison of Slow The Game Down about how you can improve your vision and the powerful influence vision has on performance outcomes.
Also, Jeff talks NFL Draft with The Con Man – he is one of the most passionate & knowledgeable NFL fans I know.
What is next for these great young football talents? Can not getting drafted be a blessing? It certainly is not the end of the line. In fact, many teams make their mark with undrafted players.
There are some great story lines coming out of this year’s draft and some teams we now need to follow very closely.
If you have any questions or a topic you would like us to investigate get to us, we may dedicate a segment or an entire episode to your topic.

  • Krush Performance: Anxiety, Stress, & Depression
Athletes are often perceived as confident, healthy, outgoing, and positive but that’s not always the case. Stress, anxiety, and depression are very powerful words and we are hearing them more and more inside and outside of sport.
Anxiety is very real and if you are not armed with the tools to cope and deal with anxiety it can become debilitating or worse it can develop into depression.
Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses world wide and some research suggests that symptoms of anxiety and depression may be higher among athletes than in the general public for a number of reasons.
I say to all of my athletes and coaches the first step in fixing a problem is to accurately define the problem and in today’s episode we are going to do just that as we are joined by registered psychologist, Kristy Gialet.
This week, we ask the questions “What is Anxiety?” “What causes Anxiety?” “What are the signs & symptoms?” “What can we do to head it off at the pass?”
We also take a look into depression, suicide, and dealing with traumatic events.
I share with you some sage advice from one of my mentors and great friends the late and great Harvey Dorfman one of the pioneers of sport psychology.
We have all had our challenges and hardships. Know you are not alone and there are great people out there just waiting to lend a hand.

  • Krush Performance: Which Team Is The Best In Sport?
** In Dedication to the entire community of Humboldt, Saskatchewan and the families and friends of the Humboldt Broncos Junior Hockey Organization, who tragically lost 14 young players and team members in a terrible accident on April 6th.
Our Thoughts and Hearts are with you all. **
This week on Krush Performance, we ask the question, “If you are looking to watch and learn from the best in sport, which team would you watch?” The Houston Astros, New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Penguins, Golden State Warriors, or is there another organization you would consider? Also, we discuss what can we learn from these top performing teams and organizations.
Then, we visit with one of the most successful independently owned & operated sporting goods stores in North America. If you want to learn from a top organization you need to take a good look at a 4th generation store celebrating their 90th birthday. What can we learn from United Sport & Cycle out of Edmonton, Canada, a lot and what does the future of sport look like…we’ll find out.
And finally we get to our text & twitter question of the week, “If you were going to add a sport to the Olympics, what would it be?” Krusher shares his top four new sport ideas for the Olympics and we hear from our listeners. There are some seriously great ideas the IOC should consider.

  • Krush Performance: Prevalence Of Obesity In Children
Alarming new research is showing a significant increase in severe obesity among children age 2–5 years. I always say if you want to solve a problem you need to clearly understand the problem and when it comes to the health issues associated with obesity and overweight we had better move quickly because we are losing ground bite by bite! In this episode, we talk with Dr. Asheley Skinner of Duke University about the new data from her research on the “Prevalence of Obesity and Severe Obesity in Children.”
We discuss some of the alarming trends Dr. Skinner and her team have uncovered and what we should be paying attention to if we hope to turn this epidemic around before its too late!
Also to kick off our 2018 War on Sugar campaign, I wanted to go back to one our conversation with Dr. Yoni Freedhoff as we discussed his book, “The Diet Fix: Why Diets Fail and How to Make Yours Work.” From sport to business to school, there is little else that has the potential to impact your performance or your health like your daily diet.
Whether you are eating to lose weight, improve performance, gain muscle, or simply feel better, there are tricks of the trade that can increase your odds of success and Dr. Freedhoff will out line his research, the book and a 10 day plan to get the best out of any diet.

  • Krush Performance: Why Do Kids Play Youth Sports?
Why do Kids Play? To have fun is the hands down, number one reason kids get out there to participate in sports. Why then are we seeing a 70% drop out rate in organized youth sports in those early teen years? It’s an important question that needs to be answered. In this episode, we are talking Kids in Sport.
We talk with George Washington University’s Dr. Amanda Visek about their breakthrough Fun Maps, a system of identifying why kids play, so we can understand how to better create programs & environments that will help keep kids in sport. You can also follow Dr. Visek’s on Twitter!
Then, later in the show, I have an e-mail from a Krush Performance listener who just had an incident with a coach & now his son is no longer playing Hockey! Listen, coaches should be keeping kids involved not causing them to drop out! It may be one of the biggest crimes!!
I wanted to know more. Could it be the kid? Could it be the parents or is it really the coach??
I touched base with the parent and it is a story I wanted to share and it is also the inspiration behind this episode of Krush Performance.

  • Krush Performance: Testing in Sport & The NFL Combine
Testing in sport – can it possibly predict future performance? Does the Combine predict NFL performance? In this episode, we are going to have a look at what is maybe the highest profile / most intense job interview possible…the NFL Combine.
We are going to get a look behind the scenes of not just one but two incredible performance cultures…. The 2013 Super Bowl Championship Seattle Seahawks and this Year’s Philadelphia Eagles. We talk with Chris Maragos, safety & special teams captain for the Eagles.
Chris was an undrafted free agent when he signed his first NFL Contract & worked his way to an outstanding NFL career and to become one of the most respected players in the game today.
I asked the question: “Knowing what we know about head injuries related to football – should we go to flag football at the developmental levels?” We received some heated responses on both sides of this issue and we’ll share some of them with you.

Organizational behavior has been pigeonholed in the business world but the implications in the world of sport are tremendous. What is organizational behavior all about?

  • Krush Performance: Baseball is Back, Olympic Withdrawal, & My First Book
Baseball is back baby, technology and our ability to train the mind are about to change the game, the Olympics are over, and my first book, “The Performance Plan: Strategies for Top Performance in Sport, Business, Coaching and Life,” is out! It is a quick read and I really wanted to get you thinking of what I feel are some of the key points for setting you up to attack your goals & performance in general.
If you get a chance to check it out I’d love to hear your thoughts and get your feedback.
    Pushing Performance
We’ve been saying it for years now, “The two big areas of opportunity for pushing human performance forward are technology and understanding & training the mind!” Now, baseball is right at the forefront of both.
Today, we talk with Tim Nicely, President and founder of V-Flex Technologies, Inc., about a new training system that has the potential to change how we train baseball players on the mound and in the batters box. Now, there is Major League proof to back it up.
Also, I’m in Olympic withdrawal already! Is there a way to get your Olympic sport fix every summer & winter?
Should we be paying more attention to the annual World Cup Circuits? I definitely think so
