  • Krush Performance: Episode 23-10: The Krush Inbox: Perception, Coaching Strategies & A BIG Question

We always say that we are here to get you thinking about things you may not have thought about before or maybe things that you have not thought about in a good long while.

That street runs both ways – as much as we want to get you thinking, you get us thinking about things as well.

At its root, this is a very important concept in the world of human performance – the sharing of information and also the sharing of opinions on the information that is being shared.

This week the sharing continues as we dive into the Krush In-Box to answer some of your questions.

And there are some GREAT questions.

    · We’ll talk pain tolerance and perception and changing your perception, your athletes & players’ perception.

    · We’ll discuss coaching and coaching strategies that you can use to aid learning, skill acquisition, and overall athlete and player development.

    · And, I get asked a question I have been waiting for – for 18 years. I never imagined that it would take this long to get this question but here it is after 18 years on the air and it conjures up a very important conversation.

It’s you and me as we dive into the Krush Mailbox to answer your questions this week on Krush Performance.

  • Krush Performance: Episode 23-9: Injuries Plaguing Sport: Understanding the Problem

At any given time in any sport – if you were to sit in on a team or organizational meeting there is one thing you would be guaranteed to hear… a discussion on injuries.

It is one of the constant issues in sport & at all levels of sport.

Unfortunately, the biggest conversations on this topic tend to happen most often at the biggest levels of the game – in pro sports.

And Right now it is one of the biggest conversations in Major League Baseball.

This week we look at the injury issues in sport with a look at the rising injury rates in the game of baseball.

At the 75 game mark of the 2023 season it has been reported that elbow injuries are up 27% year over year and shoulder Injuries are up 41%.

Those are BIG BIG numbers and reason for Big concern.

For me it all comes down Problem Solving…

Understanding injuries and Injury prevention comes full circle to a conversation we have with each and every athlete, team & organization we work with – problem solving.

In order to solve any problem, you must first understand the problem and I mean really understand it from every possible angle.

I always say, “A problem accurately defined is already partially solved.”

This is the first step in problem solving.

In Baseball, when it comes to the injuries that plague the game, especially the elbow & shoulder injures we have to look to the usual suspects:

    – Workloads

    – Velocity

    – And the New Kid on the Block who is Getting PLENTY of Attention – The Pitch Clock.

We break it all down and work to find answers on this weeks episode of Krush Performance.

  • Krush Performance: Episode 23-8: Creating Coachable Players Series: Dave Turgeon

An undefeated season at any level of sport is a truly incredible feat.

It takes planning. It takes discipline. It takes Guts and make NO Mistake … It will take “ALL OF ALL OF US!”

This week on Krush Performance, we continue our Creating Coachable Players series.

Athletes: You need to understand what being coachable is all about, what it looks like, what it feels like, what is sounds like. We lay it out for you here.

Coaches: We all need to understand that helping your athletes and players to be coachable is as important as any drill, exercise, or technique you will ever coach. We don’t typically coach this stuff, but it needs to be everywhere in sport. We talk about how you can work this into your programs.

Parents: You must understand all of this so you can help guide your athlete through the chaotic world of athlete and player development.

This week, a very special conversation with all time Krush Favorite Dave Turgeon: Head Coach For IMG’s National Baseball Team who just wrapped up an incredible 25-0 season!

Dave came up in the New York Yankees system, played overseas and spent 11 years managing and being the Coordinator of Instruction for the Pittsburgh Pirates Organization. Here, he not only coached the players, but he coached the coaches… a very cool position in sport.

Today, we are going to tap into his knowledge and his approach for player development and player learning and you’ll get an idea of what it takes to go undefeated in a season.

It is one thing to run a great technical and tactical program addressing the skills and physical side of development.

But it’s a very different and special thing to run a true athlete and player development program where you address the physical side, the mental side and the emotional side of development and performance.

This is how championships are won.

This is how champions are made.

And, this is exactly what we cover on this week’s Creating Coachable Players episode of Krush Performance.

PS. Have your notebooks ready – this one is a treasure trove of information.

  • Krush Performance: Episode 23-7: Injury Prevention Strategies in Sport

One of the top reasons players do not reach their true potential is…Injuries.

One of the top reason younger players drop out of sport…Injuries.

When you look at the big picture of sport performance and player and athlete development, injury prevention has to be King.

This week on Krush Performance we talk about injury prevention strategies and that incredible multi-discipline player and athlete performance team that exists in professional sport.

We get a look behind the curtains of one the top teams in the NHL as we talk with TD Forss: Head Athletic Therapist for the Edmonton Oilers about some of the strategies they use to track their players and help keep everyone healthy and on the ice.

And, we’ll ask TD what advice he has for developmental and youth athletes and their families as they work their way through the sporting landscape.

I’ll review some of the strategies we use to prepare our athletes for the demands of sport, not just for maximum performance but also for maximum recovery.

This is an important conversation to have at this time, especially with the historically high injury rates we are experiencing in virtually every sport and at every level of sport.

The bottom line is…you have to Prepare for Your Sport!

We cover it on this week’s episode of Krush Performance.

  • Krush Performance: Episode 23-6: Are You Coachable?

    Are you Coachable?

How do you go about helping yourself, your players, and athletes become more coachable?

This week on Krush Performance, we lay it all out for you.

We define what “Being Coachable” means and how we go about setting up our athletes and players to become more coachable.

It’s a true team effort, and that team includes the athlete, the coach, the organization, and the parents.

Every member of the team has to be on the same page, and they must understand the process of athlete and player development – this is often where the system breaks down.

So, in this episode, we ask some important questions:

    · If you are an athlete – are you coachable?
    · If you are a coach – are your players coachable?
    · If you are a parent – is your child as an athlete or player coachable?

And, I will share with you what I feel is the MOST Critical Question that needs to be asked and answered if you are going to have any hope of reaching your potential in sport…or anywhere for that matter.

The whole process is actually quite fascinating and this is where it all starts….are you coachable?

If you look at athlete or player development, no matter your sport or what level you compete at, there are fundamentals of development that if addressed properly can push your performance to new heights.

And frankly it’s just NOT that complicated.

    SO…. This week let’s have a look.
