We're celebrating Halloween a day early on Inside Sources! Holly's the only one on the team who dressed up, but that doesn't mean we can't have some fun. First, we talk with our friends from the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, hotdoggers All Beef Aiden and Lucky Dog Lauren. They join us from Southern Utah, where they're surprising parties and trick-or-treaters for "Halloweenie." Then Inside Sources executive producer Andy Cupp joins to talk about his favorite Halloween traditions.
For years, Utahns who had health issues resulting from the nation's nuclear testing in the West struggled to get help and support. Recently, the eligibility expanded and now many more people are eligible for help under the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month; we've talked about it a few times. But we've had several people reach out to us wanting us to talk more about the RECA fund and how it works. For more on this, we turn to Mary Dickson, an award-winning writer, downwinder, and thyroid cancer survivor.
Utah's fight against adult sites continues this morning. Today, the State of Utah is announcing enforcement action for its age verification laws dealing with websites featuring adult content. It's a continuation of Senate Bill 73 from the last legislative session, which has spurred lawsuits from the adult film industry that claimed Utah's law was too vague and overreaching. To help break down the law and what the state's doing to enforce it without running against the federal judge's decision, Holly and Greg chat with State Senator Calvin Musselman -- who sponsored the original bill -- and Commissioner Margaret Busse with the Utah Department of Commerce.
It's the final countdown -- just four days to go until Election Day! If you've looked at your ballot this year, you probably noticed several third-party or unaffiliated candidates running for office. We've really focused on the top contenders in those races, which generally are the Republicans and the Democrats. But with a rising number of other candidates, it got us wondering about the motivation. We know that unaffiliated voter registration is up in the state... but we also know that loyalty to Republican candidates remains high statewide. So why a continued push for these other candidates?
Greg and Holly also break down new polling numbers that say a Democrat-controlled Congress is all but certain.
How fast you walk could indicate how long you’ll live! Well, kind of. New research says that people who walk faster tend to live longer. Inside Sources wraps up today’s show with a discussion on a new health study reported in Healthline.
Chants and trash talk are all too common in sports games. But when the attacks turn personal — whether about someone’s race, ethnicity, or religion, it crosses a line. BYU’s sports teams have long been the targets of expletives yelled at them and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But it’s really amplified as the Cougars joined the Big 12 Conference. Now, following an incident at UCF last weekend, the Big 12 is cracking down in a big way. KSL Sports BYU Insider Mitch Harper joins the conversation.
Just a few years ago, Tyler Ryan and JJ Vallow disappeared. They were later found murdered, and their mother and her husband were convicted. But during the investigation, it came out that these murders weren’t the beginning — the story had begun years before with now-deceased spouses of both Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell. This is the focus of a new podcast released by KSL today called Deceived: The Daybell Story. For insights into this podcast and what it covers, Greg and Holly speak with Nate Easton, news director of East Idaho News and the host of the new podcast.
