The El Paso Animal Services Department will spend a proposed $16.2 million dollars in the 2026 fiscal year budget. That is a $2.4 million dollar increase compared to this year’s budget.

The city of El Paso’s mass public transportation agency Sun Metro will spend a proposed $103 million dollars on its operations in 2026. Sun Metor Director Anthony DeKeyzer said ridership on the streetcars has surpassed 100 thousand this year, the highest it has ever been.

Police said 30-year-old Xavier Gudadalupe Hernandez died after he became unresponsive when a police officer and a witness intervened to subdue him.
