"Opportunities to make new memories."

This podcast put the spotlight on a couple of student leaders at Kapi‘olani Community College who are designing things in these times of change and adjustment.  Tifanny and Brandon who are students and also active members of Student Activities shared valuable insights and words of motivation on pushing through adversity and staying true to yourself.  We also highlighted Kapi‘olani Community College's fearless Student Life Director, Romyn Sabatchi who provides a place for students to create, connect, grow, and explore.  The Office of Student Activities are doing amazing things to keep students connected.  Check them out on Instagram at @kapccosa and @kccbosa.  

Our campus continues to support each other during these uncertain times.  COVID-19 has been testing us at all levels but it has brought us closer together...of course with the 6ft rule.  We asked our campus to provide insight on their coping strategies and the responses were uplifting, amazing, and funny.  In certain these heart felt response can definitely make a positive impact on people's lives.  Please enjoy this episode and share widely.

COVID-19 has created a different kind of reality, which has greatly impacted all educational institutions.  On March 22, 2020, the City and County of Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell announced his emergency orders that has the tone similar to an island wide lockdown. 

The University of Hawai‘i has returned from Spring Break today, March 23, 2020, but to a very different campus culture - all courses are on-line.  This along with the ever-changing realities of our state is forcing us to further unite and to be even more supportive to our colleagues and students.

This episode touches on our feelings and projections on how COVID-19 is changing everything we do on our campus.

The Kuilei Courageous Conversations strives to highlight the benefits of attending a Community College.  We recently had an AMAZING opportunity to team up with the Wo Learning Champions, which is an excellent professional development opportunity for UHCC employees to broaden their leadership skills, to piggyback on their recent campaign called #WHYUHCC.  We asked the current Wo Learning Champions to answer in 15 seconds, "Why the UHCCs should be your number 1 choice."  The responses were fantastic!  Enjoy!  

Happy New Year!  It is around this time of the year when there is increase anxiety around next steps, especially with graduating high school students.  We, the Kuilei Outreach Program (with a new URL at https://kuileioutreachprogram.kapiolani.hawaii.edu), surveyed some of our staff and faculty asking them to provide words of wisdom as students transition into higher education.  The responses were EXCELLENT and can be applied to ALL students interested in starting a college career.  Please enjoy.

Kapiʻolani Community College offers a variety of online classes, degrees, and certificate programs. An online class might be right for you if you want or need a flexible school schedule, know how to student independently, have self-discipline and motivation, and are ready to actively engage with the online class content, instructors, and classmates.

Distance Education, or otherwise known as "on-line classes", has actually been around for some time but it has definitely evolved.  Alfie and I were fortunate to interview some of the team members of Kapi‘olani Community College's Distance Education faculty to learn how much it has grown and what students can expect.  Please enjoy listening to Leigh Dooley, English Faculty, Kristie Souza Malterre, Counseling Faculty, and Nadine Wolff, Math Faculty share their passion and commitment to serving our students in the on-line environment.
