  • After Decades, A Child Holocaust Survivor Speaks
    South Lake Tahoe resident Leon Malmed is a child of the Holocaust. When he was a young boy, his parents were rounded up and deported to Auschwitz. A neighboring family took in both Leon and his sister Rachel, raising them as their own. Leon will be speaking about his experiences at the Northwest Reno Library on Wednesday, April 5, at 5 pm.     Local resident Julia Oversloot is the author of Decency and Luck: Two Dutch Couples During World War II . It's the story of her parents, who helped a Jewish family hide during the war. They were honored by the Yad Vashem Holocaust center in Israel back in 1975 as being what is called Righteous Among The Nations.     It's been a busy "week 7" at the Nevada legislature with the introduction of roughly 2-hundred new bills. Our News Director Michelle Billman spoke to our political reporter Paul Boger to find out the latest. EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT Nevada may have made history this week when it became the first state in 35 years to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. The ERA, also known to the legislature as Senate Joint Resolution Two, enshrines in the U.S. Constitution equal rights and protections for women.

  • Survey: Business Leaders Say Workforce Is Their Biggest Challenge
    A new survey of Nevada business leaders finds that they want more workforce and STEM training to take place within community colleges and the K-12 education system. Our contributor Brook Bentley of the Northern Nevada Business Weekly reports. First Independent Bank and Bank of Nevada commissioned the survey , which took place in January. They found that out of 200 business leaders across the state, 51 percent said the quality and availability of Nevada's workforce is their number one challenge.
